I've been approached by a local keyboard/ sax/ singer. He sends me videos with godawful bass playing on - I think whoever's playing must be a guitarist who thinks he can play bass - anyway I want to play directly with the videos rather than "along with"...i.e. can I plug my bass into my PC and play through my existing speakers?

Is this what I need??

I’ve never seen anything like that. You’d normally need an interface to convert your analogue signal to a digital signal that your laptop can see.

You’ll also need some kind of DAW, something like Reaper.

Bottom line..? Yes, it will work. It won't be as easy as, nor the quality of, an interface solution, but will work with Audacity, for instance, for getting your bass signal into your PC. A stop-gap solution.
Hope this helps. B|
