Maybe send by specialist pallet courier instead of normal courier?

Itd be strapped and protected and attached to pallet. Nothing would go on top of it (youd hope) and courier would be used to heavy pallets.

Even that is no guarantee.

I had 500 copies of my band's LP on vinyl delivered on a pallet from the pressing plant in France. By the time they reached me the pallet had been smashed to bits and every single box had damaged records in it.

Ok, this fear of shipping is totally legitimate, but if you do it right, I don't see the point. Seems to most people that the stuff you buy in stores appear the Star Trek way there...

First of all, you'll have to remove all the tubes and put them in plastic bubbles wrapping before putting them in a box that you'll put back in the amp itself as there's enough room.

Then buy some 2 to 3 centimeters thick polystyrene panels and cut them to make a made to measure polystyrene box that will exactly fit your (amp) head, you can wrap it with adhesive tape to be sure it won't disassemble, but that's a bit tricky to do. After that you can cut to measure some thick cardboard to make a real fit for it box. You can put this box in another box with some polystyrene panels again (if you're a bit paranoid) and then ship it using, for instance EuroSender (10% discount for BC members) WITH THE MANDATORY INSURANCE for such things.

Done it hundreds, if not thousands, of time with only two issues in more than 30 years : one (organised by the recipient himself) theft and one serious damage to an instrument totally covered by the insurance as, even with the best package in the world, something dropped from the height of plane will not survive the ground impact...

I haven't done this thousands of times and the money at risk is a fortune to me  I've received parcels utterly destroyed by couriers so I'll pass thanks

@ped managed to get us discount with EuroSender and their insurance can really cover up to 2000 Euros (they are based in Europe, Luxembourg for the administration part), just for the info and just in case.

But do as you feel it. Karma is a good, but strange thing.

And with impeccable timing, UPS have just trashed my incoming amp. Same driver/depot as last time. Packaging badly damaged plus covered in an oily smelly liquid which they appear to have covered with tape to cover the fact.

Guess what? Broken tubes and lose transformer. At least they're consistent.

Now don't have a big amp for the weekend because my SVT is being a little bit naughty. I'd buy Stew's but it would need to be couriered. You can't make this stuff up can you :(

Advertise it in the Facebook buy sell music gear pages if you get no luck on here, I tried it just out of interest with my SVT and 410 and got loads of interest including collecting, decided to keep it in the end

Yeah it's been in a bunch of FB groups for a while - it's fine if it doesn't go I'll list my CTM instead /as well

Matamp sent me my GT200 when new. It was packed in a heavy cardboard box with fitted polystyrene packing. The box was then put in a very large heavy cardboard box that was filled with polystyrene beads. It was quite something to behold when it arrived.

Looks like the way to correctly pack the SVT that I wrote above... 🤔
