Hello all you knowledgeable BC'ers...

I have a Mesa Powerhouse 2x12 cab that appears to have a shot high frequency speaker. I have contacted Mesa US regarding a replacement but apparently they won't ship to the UK.

The Mesa speaker is a

Mesa Boogie 406 High Frequency Speaker

Does anyone have a suggestion on where I could possibly source a new 406 speaker or a suitable replacement?...

Many thanks!!

Your dealer or the service agent of record for your region can order a replacement diaphragm, there is no reason to replace the entire driver unless you prefer to spend additional, unnecessary money.

Thanks for the info. Of course I've got additional, unnecessary money to spend, I buy Mesa!! 😋

Just “horsing" around...

Thanks for the tip agedhorse.

Blue Aran have these on offer at the moment for £11. That's likely to be a lot cheaper and less trouble than getting a replacement diaphragm from the Mesa distributor.

Bang on, Stevie!! 👍

You guys are top!

Thanks for the great suggestions and support!

What a lovely bunch of folks the BC'ers are... 👌

Just received this late email from Westside Distributions in Glasgow.

I'm assuming they're a Mesa dealership.

Seems a bargain... 😕

Hi,

The code is 772720. PRICE £104.35.

Shipping £1.20

If you would like this please email me your delivery address and I’ll send you an invoice for payment.

Regards

Oreste

Errr.... Okay... 😒

Shipping seems a tad expensive though... 😏

Yes, that's interesting. They're the Mesa distributor for the UK.

One of the reasons that manufacturers like to use "OEM drivers" is that they can make this kind of obscene profit margin and not be found out, although to be fair, Mesa don't indulge in that kind of nonsense.

Also, we don't know whether the ripoff is taking place in the USA or in the UK.

i think some of the rip-off is happening i the uk, the whole unit is $49 on the mesa site,

https://store.mesaboogie.com/products/high-frequency-driver-406-with-horn.html

and the driver is $19, have you got any american friends that could buy it and have it sent over?

possibly not the response you want but when I had  a PH212 I turned the horn down as I didn't like the harshness it added to the cab.

To be fair, Jacko, I don't much like the horn either but it's just nice to know it's there in case you want to offend bass guitar purists...  😜

It's probably also worth mentioning that Mesa are selling that horn and the diaphragm for the same price as speaker specialists in the US like USspeaker. So the big markup is happening in the UK.

:whoopass:  Naughty UK!! You start treating your bassists with more respect...
