Ashdown New Mag Series

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,As a follow on really from my last post about trying to get that old school vintage sound,i have decided that i don't need another bass,i just put some  Adagio Flatwound Strings on my Yamaha BB424x and i have followed members advice on here. However i,m not quite there yet so i feel that a new Amp may compliment that for me illusive vintage sound i'm after.

So with that in mind i have been looking at the Ashdown MAG Series of Combo amps which i intend to use doing small gigs.I must say i like the look of them with the British Racing Green Front Panel, and the prices seem competitive from my local PMT in Nottingham.

Anyway my question is bearing in mind what i'm trying to achieve, which one should i go for. There are 3 , Starting out with a single 10 inch speaker, and one with 2 ten inch speakers and lastly one with a Single 15 inch speaker.

So come on help me decide will ya.cheers.

I had a Mag 115, amazing sounding amp loads of features, sound wise hard to beat. How ever, fan can be a bit noisy  at home for practice( fine for rehearsal/gigging)and its very heavy and award to carry, and the 210 is even heavier, it's a right workout moving it about, and I am a big strong lad.

sound wise superb.

The one i'm leaning towards is the C115 ,weighs in at 28 kg but i might just use it for home practice, interesting point about noisy fans,?would you say it is louder that a computer case fan, because i've just sprayed mine with some silicone spray seems to have worked .

See your point about the 210 it says it weighs in at 35 kg.

Fans not that noise, computer tower yes that's a fair comparison, it not seems loud at low volume practice, don't notice when it's cranked a bit.

For Sale Phil Jones Bass Cub BG-100 Practice Bass Combo Amplifier, Black.
Looking to sell as I am only playing at home with earphones and with low level volume on My Mac. The onboard 100w of the cub are too much for me at home.
I had one of these before and the two channels and onboard limiter are great, great tone from a little box.
This is the newer version of the combo that comes with the dust cover and not the carry bag.  Only bought 3 months ago used a handful of times since then.
      Postage possible.

I'm letting my beloved Markbass rig go!
I have owned both the combo and cab from new. They are both in great condition, they have never been moved without the covers on! No technical issues whatsoever. The only signs of wear are on the feet and handle (which are easily replaceable).
These are the original versions made in Italy, from the era before markbass moved production to Indonesia.
The head is a rebadged Little Mark ii. It has a Class A/B power section which allegedly is part of the original markbass "magic". Search talkbass and you will find essays on this! The newer little mark heads have Class D power sections which apparently don't sound the same! All I can say is the sound of this amp is simulatenously crystal clear and full-fat creamy... she puts a smile on my face every time!
NB the cab is the original version which is designed to stack with this combo. The newer versions are the same width, but not the same depth, and therefore do not stack securely.
Comes with custom made padded vinyl covers, and an OBBM speaker lead which is the perfect length for connecting the combo and cab.
      £800 collected from south london.
      More pics to follow.

      Great small combo.
Excellent old-school tone and plenty of power for small/medium gigs.
Line-out works well for larger rooms with PA support. I've done tons of shows with this fellah over the last year or so from little bars to large theatres and with various bands and line-ups and it's always come up with the goods. Sound engineers like it,too...
Comes with a flightcase style slip cover which,in addition to protecting the lovely diamond blue tolex, also serves to raise the amp up to a good working height without increasing the stage footprint.
Loads of positive stuff about this fine bit of kit here https://www.talkbass.com/threads/ampeg-b-100r-rocket-aficionados.487110/
I always do a load of research when I get some new gear and I struggled to find anything negative about these. Don't be put off by its relatively low power rating - I play in several bands of various types and all of 'em have been happy enough with the the sound and presence of this ol'boy. I don't suppose it'd be much good for a Rooster show but I've got a big dumb rig for that sort of thing.
It's not a lightweight amp - about 25kg - but I've put locking castored wheels on it and the handle's nice and comfy.
Only selling as I've just picked up a Rumble 500 for a SONG and I don't need two high-quality compact combos.
I'm in Padiham (near Burnley) if you want to come round and try it out.
Can pack and post. Probably cost a bit, though...
      My number is 07539 237 291
      Cheers
