Moon JJ Bass 4 . FS of FT
£1000
Hertfordshire

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

This really is an initial feeler.

I picked up this wonderful Moon JJ 4 from the Bass Gallery in Camden in August this year and I’m only considering trading/ selling it due to financial reasons.

its an incredibly lovely sounding bass guitar however it is pretty heavy. It was set up with flats upon purchasing and they are now worn in nicely.

in truth I don’t know too much about it, when purchasing it the guys at the Gallery believed it was old (80’s) however not too much more info than that.

I am interested in trading for a lower value Jazz Bass (4 strings only please) and cash my way. Interested to hear offers and happy to answer questions!

to be honest didn’t know the pickups weren’t original. I’ve never seen pickups like them before. They sound superb

those are standard 80's Moon Pickups.  They're original.

I very much doubt they the original Moon pickups. I could be totally wrong. 😆I thought they used Barts in the 80s Moon Jazz basses. Why would they route them like that unless the casings are missing.Lovely bass though.

I can say quietly that those pills you ride are original I have had several Moons that have the same ones for low passives. It's bad not knowing what their name is. A bass demolition in sound without a doubt and beautiful but very heavy to play long sessions. It's from the early '80s. Victor Baley was wearing one and so was Larry Graham. Luck with the sale I love the Moons

they're original. I've sold many Moon's like that over the years through my store.

that bass is very very early 80's.

I’m sure I’ll regret it but it has to go.

just for info I’ve removed the pickguard and there’s no damage underneath (apart from the screw holes)

... you might find something in the neck-pocket and/or back of the neck (no idea what the kanji states):-

re. the pickups - my moon bass has std. J size with the 'moonX' logo on the covers:-

Up for sale is this Oly white V4 Jazz from the good Mike.
Everything as spec'd by Mike: alder body in Oly white finish, slim reinforced maple neck with lined ebony board (original from manufacture, not modified afterwards) and matching headstock, Lindy Fralin Vintage single coil PUs.
It was originally wired vol, vol, tone, but I felt more comfortable with vol, balance, tone.
White pearloid pickguard is the original but I'll sell it with the additional mighty Mike tortoise one seen in the pics.
Will be equipped with the original ultralite hipshot, the lollipop ones were bought after for the look.
Definitely light, haven't weighted it yet but must certainly be nicely below 4kg, and very well balanced.

The bass sound great and is in immaculate condition, couldn't find scratches or ding even under angled light.
Original hardcase (special edition for this bass, as I was told from the local Lull dealer) is included.

Can post it if needed, bass is located in Italy (Salsomaggiore is near Parma).

      Any question I'm here.
Not specifically looking for trades and I would consider trade value slightly higher probably, but if you have something to propose go ahead, in the worst case I'll gently decline.

And now the porn part of the discussion:

After much consideration I have decided to part ways with my trusty Sei Jazz 5. I bought this bass from the Bass Gallery in early 2010. It was my no. 1 bass up until I received my Overwater in 2018. I've used this bass extensively in musical theatre, cruise ships, hotel residencies and all the usual function/wedding gigs. It is an instrument of serious quality as anyone who knows Martin Petersen's basses will tell you. As in recent years this bass has become a backup to my main instrument, I feel like it deserves to be played much more frequently by someone else. It's too nice a bass to sit around in a case!
I've upgraded the bass several times in the years I've owned it including new Bartolini jazz bass pickups and a fantastic John East Uni-Pre active/passive circuit.
From what I could find out after I bought it, the bass was built around 2001 so, as you might expect from a bass that age used by a working musician there is some tarnishing to the machine heads and bridge. There is also some discolouration to the side of the maple neck. These small defects are of course completely cosmetic.
I'm sad to be selling this bass as it holds a lot of sentimental value to me as my main bass when I first started my career as a bassist. I hope whoever buys it will enjoy it as much as I have!
      SPECS
      Body - Swamp Ash
      Neck - Birdseye Maple
      Fretboard - Birdseye Maple
      Topwood - Amboyna (stunning)
      Pickups - Bartolini ' Bright' Jazz 5
      Bridge - ABM (fully adjustable)
String spacing - adjustable but roughly 18mm
      Scale length - 34 inches
      Preamp - John East Uni-Pre (active/passive)
Strings - D'Addario XL (brand new set)
      Neck LED system (blue)

Collection preferred from Tenterden, Kent but I'm often up in London so happy to make that trip. I can't afford to lose a hardcase so no postage unfortunately.

Pricedrop 2.900 € open for offers => I'm looking for a really good Fretless Bass 😉
The bass is in good condition, technically tiptop, with usual optical used tracks (on the back of the body) and on the top plate smaller things, which I captured in the photos as best as possible.
The tone and response is extremely direct and resonant. The playability very comfortable.

Sold a 1984 Squier JV Jazz bass. It looks to be complete and original as far as I can see. It is road worn. It has been gigged hard and has signs of this all over. If you like the worn look mojo then you will love this.
It plays great and is set up with a nice low action. Please ask any questions and if you want any more pics then no problem. I am based in Exeter and I am happy for people to try it out. Unfortunately I don't have a spare hard case atm so shipping is not recommended. It will come with a gig bag.
collected from Exeter. I could possibly meet within a reasonable distance from Exeter if that was helpful.
Have a look at the pics and message me if genuinely interested.
Will consider trades with Fender Jazz basses either way.
