Courier points system and courier issues

Be very wary of Initial City link.

I was once bouncing around Temping & got placed on a company that was using lots of differant courier services Initial was one.

My job was to audit the differant couriers they were using And Initial scored an amazing 85% loss/theft & 5% damaged on delivery.

We investigated & found that certain staff was damaging the Box's & having a look inside if it was worth anything they were simply just taking it.

The company was losing electrical products hand over fist.......I just could'nt believe how blatant they were being about it....tbh.

How can a courier loose a 58" Bang Olufsen TV??? it was going from Leeds to Sheffield

When we presented our findings to them they seemed uninterested & tried to just offer the copany a bigger discount. it was unbeleavable.

I have nothing buy praise for APC.
Luckily I have continued my business account from my old company to my bass enterprise. This means I get preferential rates and it only costs me £9.80 to send a very well packed bass. I have recently sent about 15 with them without incident.
If you send items regular get an account with them to save a few quid.
I cannot remember what the increased insurance rates are but they are very reasonable.
For international I use Parcelforce, the last I sent was to Denmark, it weighed 9kg and cost £42.00

For smaller items I always use Royal Mail either Standard parcels or a signed for service. I must of sent 500-600 items in the past 3 years with them and have never had a problem.
The final delivery really tested Interparcel's Customer Service. I booked through the web and chose a DHL service. Everything went through fine until on the day of collection DHL phoned to tell me the pick-up time I selected was after their pick-up time for the area. I tried to explain that the time I "selected" was the only one available. They agreed to collect the next day, which didn't really bother me, but decided to let Interparcel know that there was a problem with their booking system as it only offered me a 2:30 - 4:30 pick-up slot and DHL's cutt-off for my area was 10:00AM,
A polite, "could you hang on a moment" resulted in them offering to change the order to TNT and it would be picked up later in the afternoon, which it was. The package was delivered at 8:06 the following morning.
That's interesting. Perhaps we are able to specify a preferred contractor (or whatever the correct word is) when ordering.

Big negative for UPS. Shipping a 35KG 4x10 combo to London. Collected fine yesterday, no problems. Next day delivery guarantee. This morning tracker shows out for delivery. At 4.30 in the afternoon this changes to :

19/09/2008 16:24 LONDON, GB THE PACKAGE WAS MISSED AT THE UPS FACILITY, UPS WILL DELIVER ON THE NEXT BUSINESS DAY

How can they miss a parcel that big (and take 10 hour to notice they missed it!). I suspect the driver went to deliver it and found it hadn't been put in the van.

Usually UPS are reliable and I send a fair number of parcels with them but this strikes me as massive incompetence

Andy :)

- 1 million for USPS took 11 days to deliver a bass from the USA,even though it had a 6 to 10 day delivery time, and NO it wasn't the stuck in customs excuse-it took them 5 days to move it from Clifton New Jesey to Jersey city,a distance of 17 miles!!!!
Also,I would like to thank them for dropping a through neck bass on it's headstock :)

For having a sh*t tracking system, for having an even worse email notification system, sign up for email notifications and don't get any

and - 10 for Parcelfarce, who have changed the rules concerning paying Import duty,no longer will they collect cash on the doorstep, they will hold your item, you pay by credit or debit card and they deliver it the NEXT day, like you haven't waited long enough
You do have the option to drive to their depot and pay cash
+1 for ParcelForce. Will insure instruments, do not need to be hard-cased, just well packed, I advise photos too. And a hard case if you are worried.

£30 next day Brighton > Leeds for double boxed Jazz.
£100 next day Brighton > Italy for flight-cased Aria.

Both insured for £500.
Ah, another one misslead by the large print...

You need to read the small print as you may rest assured that the people who reject Parcel Force insurance claims certainly do ....

Read the "Prevent movement of items in transit" bit deep down on this page of the parcelfarce website
http://www.parcelforce.com/portal/pw/conte...iaId=load105018

"Musical instruments will only be covered up to £150 of compensation for loss or damage."

Oh and the Post Office counter staff don't know that bit either ....

Much to my surprise, after my previous experiences with the Post Office, I can now change my mind and say that Post Office Special Delivery will take basses in normal bass delivery carboard boxes, and will insure them up to the amount you wish to pay for. (NB: this is not Parcel Force)

Wrap it well, though, so they have no get out clauses if a fork lift runs over it.
yup, parcelforce wont insure unless the instrument is in a hardcase and in another box too, and even then its £150 max
Sorry to be pedantic but that's not quite how it is ...

Parcel Force will cover your bass for up to £150 if it's not in a case but only if it is in a box and Very Well Wrapped.
What the small print says about cases is that if the bass is in a case, but the case is not in another box and Very Well Wrapped, the case counted as wrapping and is thus not insured. The bass is still insured (but only up to £150)

So for both bass and case to be covered, the whole lot needs to be very well wrapped and inside an exterior box.

You can see how they squiggle out of paying claims ....

A plus 1 for APC, which is good considering the crap I had last time I used them.

£45 and a few pence to deliver a 40kg Ashdown cab from Glasgow to Keighley, Yorks. Collected it from the flat, had no problems arrranging a collection (at my convenience for once!), and the driver (who hadn't been told the weight and was on his own) carried the cab downstairs (well, in the lift) by himself and didn't say he'd need to collect it another time (I was at work, my girlfriend was at home). Delivered on time too, I'm very happy with them now.

Not quite sure I like/understand the whole volumetric weight charging policy but the buyer paid postage so it's no skin off my nose.

To be honest, I think the problem I had last time was just with the Kilmarnock depot I used last time, the Glasgow one was fine.

Well... InterParcel came up trumps

The bass was collected in the UK Wednesday afternoon and has been delivered this afternoon (Friday) in Canada and the bass is safe and sound. That's a pretty impressive delivery schedule if you ask me!

Good price, no smashed bass and 'quick' delivery. Definitely a +1 from me.

+2 for http://www.personalshipper.com - really cheap, with insurance. All done online (print out the labels etc) and everything collected when it should have been and delivered next day. Uses city-link as the actual courier.

First one was a Trace Amp, aroun 15Kg cost just over a tenner to send next day delivery - you can use the tracking number on the city link website although you do get email updates whenever the status changes.

Second one was a Trace Cab, totalling 30Kgs, measuring around 60x60x40 - cost £14.73 next day delivery! I even booked this on the website after 5pm and it was still picked up the next day.

I also received a cab from them so i guess this should be +3!

Cheers

Another +1 for Interparcel (TNT).
Had to send a bass back to The Bass Centre and not only did they collect the Bass but the same guy dropped off a Zoot Cab. Normally it would be 1 delivery guy and 1 collect guy. Someone really got their act together.
Oh, and the Bass arrived safe and sound.

Some may recall the above - well it gets worse. After delivering it late, the amp arrived smashed - all 4 castors bent through 45 degrees (the wood of the casing had been broken!), speakers damaged, tears in the packaging leading to damage to the grille, smashed handles and some odd noises from the amp. All the signs of being dropped off of the back of the truck.

I logged the damage with interparcel, after a while of to-ing and fro-ing they eventually sent it to UPS. It sat with UPS for 28 days. When I enquired after 27 days I was told that the claim would be settled on monday. Monday came and went and on the thursday I emailed to chase, the following tuesday I got a reply saying that the cheque had been posted. Eventually received the cheque today 2nd class.

So pros :
Payed out full amount for insurance

Cons :
Took 8 weeks from delivery to the claim being sorted.
Delivery was late (although the delivery cost - but not the insurance cost - was refunded reasonably promptly.
Poor communication from interparcel.

Andy
