[quote name='ferguswads' post='375139' date='Jan 9 2009, 02:07 PM']I have recently acquired a new 75 Reissue jazz.

It came with the pickup covers and I'm thinking of just adding the rear one so my questions is two fold.

What difference will it make to the sound?

What would you advise is the best way to fit them/get them fitted?

Thanks

My 62 Ri has the holes for the front cover, but not the back - I also wondered, are they just cosmetic or do they affect the sound in any way?

I have a 75 RI, and i dont think the covers affect the sound at all.....consider you get the most sound from the pickup you play over, so this is impossible with the covers over the pup...correct me if im wrong..i find it much easier to play with no covers on, its just more ergonomic..

Although i do like the look of these covers, if you play in multi right hand positions, and move around quickly from finger style to slap,.. i just makes playing too difficult..

IMO they are purely cosmetic..if they were of any use, Fender would still fit them..

Totally agree with Bubinga5 - although I have heard some say they affect the sound - they def hinder your technique if you play fingerstyle. If you do fit them, make sure you drill small pilot holes before you screw them in - otherwise you'll probably crack the finish in an UGLY way!
