Jimothey Posted October 7, 2019 Share Posted October 7, 2019 (edited) I’ve been offered a 30w practice amp for next to nothing because the speaker is farting a bit the rest of the amp works fine My plan is to build a sealed 2 x 10 cab with a removable back and use the amp to power them I know that the amp isn’t really powerful enough to run them at volume but it’s only going to be home use and my plan is to re-use the cab with a separate amp head when I can afford one So my question is if the amp is rated at 4ohms then would the 2 new speakers need to be 8ohms to run them in parallel so they would end up being 4ohm or would that not work?? I'd be looking for a 2nd hand 2x10 personally. There's a Harley Benton one F/S at the moment in the marketplace for £65. You couldn't build one for that. It would be difficult to combine a 4 and 8 ohm speaker in any sensible way unless one is dual coil. If they are car speakers then the power ratings are likely to be nonsense I'm afraid. I think the advice to buy a cheap Peavey might be the best advice, then cash it in again when you decide to upgrade, you'll lose almost nothing and be able to play straight away. the sound will probably be better than what you plan. I recently scrapped a Peavey cab because no-one wanted it at the time, you should be able to get something really cheaply. If building is what you want to do the speakers inside are usually good so stripping out a peavey and building a lighter cab can be fun and a low cost option. 1 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
