Never been one for altering / upgrading basses unless really necessary, although always like to keep them in good clean working order. Bit fussy about looking after all my kit, but only to a point. Don’t have bass related t-shirts , although some Fender apparel still in my wardrobe. Still enjoy this site along with music mags, and attend a few guitar shows when I can. Always check out a band’s set up when I go to gigs, particularly the bass rig ( so damn those IEM users....😉) and derive a lot of pleasure hearing a nice old bass played well through a proper amp. Just to keep abreast of developments and I trawl Youtube for great bass playing, but that's it. At home my basses live in their cases unless I'm working up a set for a gig. As for Marillion inspiration, I already had a Warwick JD Thumb, but I did get a strap the same as his and a Cort GB4 which is identical (apart from the colour of the logo) to the GB94 he used for a few years. I make a point of playing all my basses (4 electric, 2 acoustic, all out on floor stands) often enough that they don't need too much dusting, and change strings as often as I fancy trying a new type of strings, which is fairly often. As well as regularly cleaning the strings and frets, I polish all my basses' and guitars' bodies with a decent car wax, as I’m also a bit (a lot) nerdy/OTT about detailing my cars. On seeing this, the guitarist muttered to me; "this guy will either be amazing, or totally shite" Guess which he was...... She hates them. And anything that is mostly brown (unless it is just wood). The one she hated most was a butterscotch telecaster, that wasn't allowed there and an ibanez ATK. The Wenge and spalted poplar ibanezes are allowed. She doesn't like my new Gibson 'the Paul' which has been refinished in brown. All completely justified - they're in no way an indulgence! Hahaha However many basses / guitars you have, there's always a hankering after "the next one". As for tweaking the instruments, I adjust the truss rods when required (usually due to the summer and winter climate differences), and clean the fingerboard each time I change the strings. Does anyone else do the "clean the dust out from under the strings" thing on a regular basis? - where you use a cloth to wipe away the dust on the scratchplate / body under the strings area?
