It'll be on iplayer somewhere.

I hope you guys realise that Flog It, Bargain Hunt and Dickinson's Real Deal are part of the pantheon of daytime tele and for those of a certain age and persuasion it's quite relaxing viewing (unlike that programme that's just been taken off the air - which I've only ever known young to Middle Aged women watch - good riddance to that one).

I think you're doing Flog It a bit of a disservice - after all the auctions they use mostly have Internet and stuff in demand (like old Moorcroft vases or vintage Stratocasters) pop up in people's searches or even alerts.

Some of the stuff sold is bought by retailers who would also have to make a profit and give the item parking space for however long it may take them to sell it.

Also was it fully original and was the colour desirable - it all makes a difference (even with Moorcroft vases...).

So I think you're treating Flog It a bit harshly - just don't start having a go at Countdown as well....... 😂😂😂

The price sounds a little low but when I first saw this thread I was thinking they'd sold a 59 Strat for £200 or something really daft!!

I like Bargain Hunt.

It's obviously made up and it wouldn't surprise me if the items have been placed in the shops by the production team (just like the US Storage Wars type things) but I don't care.

I like seeing the things they "discover."

How I imagine seniors research a guitar on tinternet.

17:15 Tuesday Afternoon.

Fred - "Right, what does it say on the top bit?"

Ethal "FENDER JAGUAR"

(Fred Google Search - FENDER JAGUAR)

(Look at Shopping results. Prices range from £500 to £6000)

"Which one have we got Ethal?"

"I don't know Fred, its red. Is there a red one on there?"

"No"

"I don't know then. Why don't we take it on Flog It!? That Paul is such a nice man, if they can sell it for us maybe we can afford to turn the heating on over Christmas!" 😢

"But shouldn't we take it to a specialist guitar auction house? After all, that's what anyone who knows anything about vintage guitars would do!"

"Shut it Fred, I wanna go on telly, meet Paul and make some dosh!"

The beeb used to be a trusted, impartial institution.

People of a certain age, who grew up trusting those institions have a reasonable expectation of being treated fairly.

Unfortunately, as demonstrated here, that trust was abused.

The bbc cannot be trusted, I don't watch or listen to it.

I have friends that work on bargain hunt, I pointed out once that the logic of the show makes no sense, buy from a shop or fayre at full retail price then put it into a random auction to try and get more for it than they paid in the shop!

exactamundo

and really, how bloody cheap are the BBC?

I watch a half hour show and the host is excited that the WINNERS get to share 22 pounds lol

cheapest of the cheap shows I reckon.

I think the questions  here are:

1) Whether the so called experts on Flog It should have valued an item they clearly know nothing about.

Not everyone can be expected to know how much a certain object is worth, and vintage guitars should and normally do go to specialist auctions so the auctioneers they use as experts on Flog It probably had no idea what they're looking at.

2) Why anyone would take anything of potential value to Flog It in the first place.

Most auction houses have free valuation days - thats how they get their stock in the first place.  The service is paid fro by the commissions on the sale.

Anyone who has the misfortune of catching the end of Flog it will often see the estimate is rarely correct.

I'm actualy a fan of Bargain Hunt - the auctioneers there seem to have a much better handle on valuations than the experts - the fact that its buying at retail and selling at wholesale as someone pointed out earlier is the whole point.

As well thought out as I deemed warranted.👍😁

Yep, cant have any of that pesky "thinking" now can we.

Just grab the tin foil hat jibe and walk away in ignorance.
