Now browsing through reverb, Thomann, BC etc and I'm just not feeling the urge to make excuses to get more stuff. Has my gas run out ??? ! To be fair to myself I only made one purchase this year, last year and the year before were ludicrous: Maybe in 2020 I can get through the year without buying anything 😂 (excluding consumable items of course). .........There's an EBS Reidemar 2ohm head that's taunting me however. Turns out I'm properly covered at this point in time and I don't need any more distortion pedals! When I'm not actively playing / writing then I end up buying gear as a way to prove I'm still "musically active" which is clearly bunkum but a trap i suspect a lot of us fall in to... I realise now as I gaze down at my three pedal boards that was wishful thinking. It's all the same thing. Whether it's instruments this month and cabs the next, it's always stuff I don't really need. I have 2 x TC112 speakers, that aren't wide enough for it, so the amp goes on lenghwise which is bad for two reasons. 1, it looks bad, 2 it puts the side of the amp parallel and at the same height as of my single coiled ibanezes that pick up the mains hum a lot if they get close. 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I’m really interested in bass gear, it’s my hobby so I don’t mind really. Said to myself I’m going to order a bass each year (funds permitting), so that’s the current plan. Who knows though... could get bored, sell it all tomorrow and take up fishing instead. If I have the money I just buy what i want. The one problem with valve heads, small cabinets don’t really work with them , especially if they’re only around 100w. There isn’t enough power to get what you want and they physically don’t fit on them . Bear in mind until 6 months ago I used no pedals at all. It's been an interesting experience. The GAS attack began as my bank account hit actual zero. So I have sat, as it were, outside of myself, observing the flow and ebb of GAS. First few days were spent just pouring fuel onto the fire, watching videos, sketching out ideas for pedal configurations, reading about it. Then as the reality dawned that I need to borrow petrol money to get to gigs, the flames slowly died down. By yesterday morning a moment of clarity! I did not need this pedal, at all. How ridiculous to imagine that I did! Then I look through the Show Us Your Pedalboard thread on Basschat and boom 🤯 there is woodyratm 's utterly beautiful IKEA pedal board with the EHX TPM sitting proudly in the upper circle. The world of bass has gone through a renaissance in the last 15 - 20 years. New gear is always coming on the market, new techniques and styles are being developed by some very cleaver minds. I like to keep up with this instrument. Check everything out and occasionally you can find something that improves your sound and how you fit into a band. Mainly because the last two that had me giddy with excitement on release left me a bit unimpressed when I bought them (EBS Billy Sheehan Signature Drive and Darklgass Alpha Omega). Don't get me wrong, I do buy effects, but I generally buy them on a whim rather than as a carefully planned purchased so there is never any real GAS. For basses, I have longterm 'I wouldn't mind but don't need' mild GAS for a Rickenbacker and an HH five string Stingray. I have longterm 'I would really quite like but can't justify the expense of purchasing' GAS for a Wal and Spector 6 string. Not really much else and I don't see myself buying any of those basses. My real GAS problem area relates to amps and cabs. I just have a terrible need to buy the following amps: Matamp GT200, Mesa 400+, Trace Elliot V8. I am far more likely to buy more amps than I am likely to buy another bass. I also really want to buy the matching Trace Elliot V-type 8x10 to go with my V6. I could have bought one for £300 or so a few years ago because I didn't need it and I was living in a second floor flat.
