Buzzzzzzzzz

Hey guys / gals , I guess we're all familiar with buzzy guitars that stop buzzing when we touch the strings. But what do you make of a bass which buzzes quietly all the time bit most loudly when I touch the strings?

Thanks RB. I assumed if it was that the buzz would stop when I touched a metal part. is this not so?

That's normally what happens if the problem is the ground wire. Assuming it happens with every amp (if it doesn't, that would suggest an  issue with yours) I'd look at the screening in the instrument.

Is the cavity shielded in any form? If so this also needs to be grounded. Else you can act like an antenna.

So ground wire from cavity to where the bridge wire connects. 

As demonstrated recently after I fitted a pre amp to a basschat members bass. Loud buzz even when bridge was grounded. So extra ground from cavity fitted.
