WITHDRAWN: Wal Mk1 1983
£3850
London

[Price reduced to £3500 and open to offers]

Hi

After some careful deliberation i have decided to sell my lovely Mk1 (lined fretless). I purchased this secondhand circa 1995 and it was my primary guitar for several years - gigging and in and out of the studio. But, as I've gotten older (and kids have come along) it is been used less and less and deserves to go to someone who will give it the love and attention it deserves. I am new to this forum so not sure of all the etiquette around selling, but I live in North London and would be happy to entertain visits if someone lived locally and wanted to try it out. (I have a SWR Redhead from back in the day)

As expected, it has a mahogany core but with elm facings. There are a few scuffs on the body, although the lacquer along the neck is intact. Two screws are missing from the back plate. (It was last set up about 18 months ago, so the strings are equally as old, but i have hardly had it out the case in that time.) Hard case included in the sale, but it is not the original one.

When sold i would prefer it collected rather than shipped, but can negotiate that as necessary.

Probably worth putting "lined fretless" in the description / listing title, though it's evident from pics.

Never seen an elm faced one before, an almost unobtainable wood now in Europe. Gives it that "Ercol" look!

Welcome to the forum and good luck with the sale - lovely Wal :i-m_so_happy:

Lovely bass.  I'd buy it myself if I didn't already own one of its brothers.

I just copied your add to the Wal Facebook page; hope that's alright.  There are a mix of collector types there ( who want perfect shiny with spotless gold hardware ) numerous Tool fans ( who want frets ) but fretless fans too.  Maybe a better place to specifically sell a Wal.  And no-one will be asking about string spacing then saying " oh that's too wide / narrow for me" 🙂

Good luck with the sale ... but also sorry for your loss.  Mine will have to be prised from my cold dead hands.

Is this advertised on the Wal forum?? When I was looking for one that was my first port of call.

...I looked but couldn't find the link to the site I was recommending. Anybody?

"Wal bass lovers of the world unite" on Facebook,

https://m.facebook.com/groups/2413094311

is the place we mostly gather to speak of wals.  That's where I just copied the add to. Are there other Wal forums?  Please share.

Hi

Thanks NickA for forwarding on to the Wal forum. I’m not on Facebook so hopefully they will come here if they have any questions 👍

Yes, it’s a sad day to come to the decision to sell it, but I need to be honest and admit it ain’t getting the lovin’ it deserves from me.

Lovely bass - love the Wal tonal palette but couldn't get on with the neck of either of the two that I had.

I think any messages should be sent as PMs though..

It could have a neck made of barbed wire, and it would still be worth it for the sound. 😉

anyway ... how is this not sold already??  Have a bump.

Wonder if this sold?  If not someone better grab it before the price goes up.  The other MK1 fretless on the site is £6.5k!  Bargain here.    🙂

Apologies for not updating this sooner. I have not sold this and would withdraw it from the site if i could work out how to do it ;)

After a an interesting journey of reflection - part helped by some Basschat members -  i am now feverishly back in love with my Mk1 and will not be letting it go !

Thanks

I don't blame you.

If you go back to your first post and select edit, you can edit the title to state 'Withdrawn'.

Lovely, lovely little fretless here, made by Vintage, however I cant find any model number info anywhere on the bass, if you know let me know  (mystery solved - its a V940)
Active circuitry, fitted with some unknown black flatwounds, it plays incredibly well. Knobs are master vol, pick up select, and bass and treble active pots, giving this a fairly broad tonal palette.

Condition wise, very very good, I cant find any dings on it. The main body wood is some sort of bubinga/wenge type, with an open grain, but not as deep as wenge so I don't think its that. Weight is 4.2kg according to my bathroom scales.
In summary, a really nice bass. Only reason this is being let go is I have too many fretlii as it is. Collection much preferred, although I do get around the country a bit with my various works, so could possibly bring somewhere near to you.

Beautiful Overwater fretless bass, custom made for the original owner around 2005.
The bass has a stunning quilted maple top and a nice green/blue burst finish. The fretboard is made of ebony.  It's an active bass.
      Pics:

There are several cosmetic damages to be found around the bass; dents, scratches, missing paint chips; battle scars. The fretboard shows signs of use but is definitely in very good condition. All hardware and electronics function like they should. The bass plays very well and has plenty of the mwah you want from a decent fretless.
An original, high quality Overwater gigbag/softcase is included.
      Now €1.150
I am located in the Netherlands, but happy to ship at buyers risk (insured, well packed)

For sale is my gorgeous Limelight 1960 Stack Knob Fretless Jazz bass in Sherwood Green with medium relic. I had this made by Mark at Limelight to my specifications. As with all Limelight basses it sounds and plays beautifully.
      Details are,
Unlined Ebony Fretless neck 38mm nut width. Hand rolled finger board. Aged nitro finish on the neck. Parchment scratchplate. Gotoh Vintage reverse tuners. Aged finish in nitro-cellulose. Lightly tarnished metal work. Stack knobs. Earth grounding strip from bridge to bridge pick up. Mute holes. Thumb Rest (Below strings). Hootenanny button on the back of the headstock. Period correct Fender logo. Weight 4.3kg Limelight make wonderful replica Fender basses and this one is no exception. Sounds and plays beautifully. It's very hard to photograph Sherwood Green as in some photos it looks green and in others it looks blue. So the last photo is next to a blue pot and a green pot which helps show the true colour of the bass.
I paid £1123 for this at the start of 2020 and it has never been gigged or even left the house. Price is £750, based in Camberley, Surrey and UK shipping included.
Would consider trades for the following,
Fender Precision American Vintage Reissue 62 or 57 in Sunburst or White with cash your way.
Fender Precision American Standard 2008 onwards (high mass bridge, lightweight Hipshot tuners and knurled chrome flat-top controls) in Sunburst with Rosewood neck.
      Fender American Performer Precision.
