Someone asked me what kind of music Gregg Allman band was.

I seriously couldn't pigeon hole them so thought i would ask the experts. (that means you guys just in case you were sitting wondering who the experts were)

My initial thoughts are somewhere between funk, blues and rock. ???

Don't they call it 'southern rock'?

Blimey - that's gotta be a modern definition!

Course this were all fields when the Bellamy Brothers, Allman Brothers, Country Joe and numerous others invented(?) the 'country rock' thing..

neatly splitting away from Prog Rock, Bill Haley R'n' R & other Rock 'n' roll divisions...........

ymmv

Other opinions are (probably) available..........

Another thread running today is the Grand Funk Railroad. Are they not the same style and would you then regard this as a style of funk ?

I did consider it to be Southern Rock but i always imagine that as Skynard or ZZ Top kind of thing.

Allmans and GFR appear to be more melodic both musically and lyrically but that's maybe just my own experience of them.

Throw in some other bands i class as same like Doobies, Tony Joe White altho i think he's more Southern Blues rock.

I guess it doesn't really matter as long as they are good.

Allmans etc have always been known as the Southern Rock genre, that goes back as far as the 1970’s, it’s not something new.

Most of the acts on the Capricorn record label fell into that genre.

A question was posed by the original poster, so why bother commenting on this specific post and it’s not your musical genre and you don’t care.

 🤔

Blue Planets just started, so I’m outa here.

Don't think there was any need for this.
