Hey guys,

Finally got my order received, including 2 Yamaha BBs, Ashdown CTM head and cab and even an ashdown tone pocket to stay on the neighbours Christmas card list 😉 hahaha

Obviously, matching 4 & 5 string BBP34 and 35 basses. Fit like a glove, sound amazing and don't break my back the way the BB1025 does. Extremely happy to have these.

The ashdown is just pure valve bass amp goodness. Got less watts to play with but compared to my Trace Elliot 715 and Ashdown Touring 220w, I've got more tone to play with and its loud enough for what I need it for. I will be investing in some casters for the cab though, it's a heavy thing and the wheels on the back of the cab are practically useless unless you're 2ft tall, to use it on the 45° angle and don't need to move it sideways.

All in all, feel like a kid on Christmas getting everything on his list to santa. So happy 😁

Blimey, that's an order! Haha. Looks great!! I have a BBP35 in the other colour. Can't fault it, it's a really, really good bass. There doesn't seem to be many about. Mine was the 1st in the country, direct from Yamaha and I haven't seen many since.

Are you going to tune/string them differently?

I'm surprised there aren't many over here, it does sadden me that people out there prefer Fenders more so: which tend to lack the quality and cost more. Perhaps more so because it's a household name over Yamaha but they don't realise they're being fleeced? 😕

Both got the stock D'Addario's on them, the 5 string is standard and the 4 is in Eb tuning. Looking to get a D-tuner for the 4 string soon enough.

If that really were the case, I don't think Fender would be able to sustain their sales or success long term. And also I think its rather dismissing that many will have made an objective decision and chosen Fender, based on eg trying out many basses. I can personally relate to my own experience when I went searching for another bass - I went in with an open mind and tried many; and chose Fender after that process.

Also, I don't get "saddened" by others' (buying) decisions. I fully recognise that others are free to choose something else, and that Fender isn't a "one size fits all" - but also neither is any other bass guitar manufacturer, or anything else really.

Wow that's a stunning set up!

I love Yamahas. Ive got a BB604 (a BB bass in name but not in design)  and it's such a good all rounder.

Got a lot of time for Yamahas.

Thank you 😁

The 604 are great basses, perhaps a BB in the way of more of a 'modern' take on the series, alike to the Nathan East models and they're quite the bass in itself! I hope you're enjoying it and would love to see if you get any more Yamaha products - being a fanboy haha

Are you sure the BBP34/5 came fitted with D'Addario's? The BBP34's were shipping from the factory with Elixir 4-String Nanoweb E14077 Nickel Plated Bass Strings, 45-105. At least that's what came fitted to mine, and confirmed by Yamaha support, after I queried the fact that the strings didn't have coloured ball-ends. My BB434/5 did come with D'Addario''s from the factory.

That's unusual, AFAIK, from the 43x series up they are supposed to come with D'Addario 170's.

My BBP35 came with EXL170-5.

Just relating my experience..... Yamaha published specs say....

D'Addario EXL170 / 0.045-0.100 for the BBP34 and D'Addario EXL170-5 / 0.045-0.130 (5 strings) for the BBP35.

However, I after I got my BBP34 I queried this with Yamaha as soon as I noticed the strings didn't have coloured ball ends (ie. not D'Addario's). I actually thought they might be Elixir coated strings based on the feel, and the reply I got from Yamaha support confirmed this.....

Thank you for your email regarding your Yamaha BBP34.

Our Guitar Specialist has advised that the BBP34 is factory fitted with Elixir 4-String Nanoweb E14077 Nickel Plated Bass Strings, 45-105.

I hope this helps and thank you for contacting Yamaha Music Europe GmbH (UK).

Kind Regards,

Alison Osborn
