1968 Gibson EBO Short Scale String Recommendation

Recommended Posts

I have been using LaBella M42S on my EB3 but I am trying to source a new supplier after the demise of Stringbusters, the only place I had been able to get them. Unless someone knows of another source.

Depends on the gauge you like to use I suppose. I used to have a slotted-headstock ‘68 EBO and was happy using standard gauge Rotosounds rounds.

Can any of you BC people advise on what strings you would recommend for a 1968 Gibson EBO bass.

What style(s) of music do you play? Once we know what you want to achieve we can offer better options. Otherwise you will just get a list of strings people personally like or prefer, which probably won't be what you are looking for.

Basschatters

Thx for the feedback regarding the strings for the Gibson EBO.

The bass has a very inherent tone which has been described as "muddy" and really suits the blues/jazz genre.

Will be trying some flats and some roundwounds to see what works best.

Flats with a dull sound, plus mudbucker will be a lot of low end. Steel rounds being brighter will give more definition to your sound, and nickel rounds sit near the middle, brighter than flats, but my choice would be half rounds or pressure rounds.

Consider Status Hot Wire flats.

I bought a set of medium scale off @Pestie for my Fender Stu Hamm and they sound amazing. A great middle option between flats and round wound. The thump of flats with the "zing" of round wound. Just ordered a set of short scale  for my 2008 Gibson SG Bass (EB3). If they work as good as the medium scale I plan to get a set on my Eppiphone Allen Woody Rumblekat. I normally use Fender 9050ML on my P basses.
