R.I.P Joe Osborn

Joe's bass playing on The Fifth Dimension's recording of Aquarius/Let The Sunshine is one of the best performances you will hear.  Very skillful but controlled.  Joe was one of the unsung bass heroes and it's only in recent years that I discovered many of my favourite recordings had Joe laying down the bottom line.  Thanks Joe.

Not enough people know who JO was which is so true for so many great bass players. Studio legend and I can only imagine the stories he could have told. Golden age for being a session guy, the go to session guy! and worthy of every positive comment said, and to, follow on this thread. Here's To The HGT!

Amazing bass player.

The bass line to 'The Only Living Boy In New York' is still one of the most sublime pieces of playing I've ever heard.

Thank you. I haven't listened to this track in years. What a glorious piece of bass playing.

one day I was playing along to Neil Diamond and wonderred who the bassist was, Shilo had a great bassline. Then I played America by Simon and Garfunkel and wonderred the same thing. Looked it up and found out it was Joe. His discography is mind blowing. Then I find out he is dying and now this.

Thanks Joe, I've learnt SO much from your basslines

Very sad news. When I was a kid we had the radio on all day long and I was in love with the bass playing I was hearing, even though I didn't know who the players were.

It turned out one was James Jamerson, another was Herbie Flowers and another was Joe Osborn (among others). These are the people without whom my life would be very different. RIP.

Very sad news..

Absolutely love JO's playing; his melodic sensibility, his tone.. but also, wasn't there something really different and special about his syncopation - like on Ventura Highway for example - or is that me? I just love his play on that track.

Anyway, whatever it is that sets him apart, his playing was of the absolutely highest order!

RIP
