Not sure about the serial prefix... JV series are the next ones - Big Squier, small "by Fender" Those two are considered to be better ones. Jap squier oe MIM fender?[/quote] Casting my mind back to the 80s, I think the original jv vintage reissue ones had vintage style hardware and nitro finishes, but the non jv ones had cheaper hardware and thick skin finishes. The JVs are the ones that tend to go for much better prices, especially the earliest ones which had a big Fender logo and a little "squier series" logo. My first bass is a JV precision (big squier, small fender, JV0570) If I'm reading your posts and links correctly then this is basically a fender made in Japan with a Squier logo on it, and is a pretty good p bass. It cost me a tenner 5 years ago, havent played it for 2 years coz in my opinion it's a bag of sh*te. so either I [i]am [/i]a victim of hype and I didn't like it coz I'm thinking it's a cheap jap copy, or fender p's really are overhyped overpriced planks... On the up-side it's in a pretty cood condition, with one small belt-buckle chip so maybe I should flog it off to boost my stingray fund. The mythology goes that Fender chose the Fujigen factory to build Squiers in the early 80s because the quality & consistency of the 70s copies coming from there (Ibanez, Greco etc) was massively higher than the US originals at the time. The first MIJ Fenders were Japan-market only, Squier was originally just the export brand - as far as I know quality was the same, the only real difference was the name.
