Whilst clearing my father in laws junk room ive come across a davison banjo with hard case..valued new at £3500.00 for the banjo and £400.00 for the case..

Been told to sell and i dont have a clue where to start??

Anyone got any ideas as there doesnt seem to be  equivalent "banjochat"😀

Either have a word with Phil Davidson to see if he will take it back as used stock, or put it on commission with Eagle Music in Huddersfield, https://www.eaglemusicshop.com . This is a very high-quality instrument but the case is not worth £400 on it's own - Phil's prices include the case. Difficult to price the instrument, best to get some specialist advice.

That looks like a nice instrument! I'd also suggest asking Phil Davidson first - he'll certainly know people looking to buy one of his banjos, and can probably give you some more details about its history too. Failing that, Hobgoblin are also worth talking to for selling folk instruments - I've bought various instruments from them in the past.

I know Phil very well, and his banjos are amazing.  Some of the uk’s finest players use them.  He’s an awesome banjo player as well.  As for the case, if it’s a Carlton case, then yes, it will be worth about £400mon their own, as they have stopped making them.

p.s I would NOT recommend selling at hobgoblin- they do not look after their instruments well, and most of their shops have the appearance of a jumble sale!  You could also place an advert through the Blugrass association magazine.  I am friends with the Carrivick sisters, who are fine bluegrass banjo players, and they may be interested.

Hi Robbie

Jeez, I wish I'd seen that listing  :/ - I'm just starting on banjo, a long time ambition

Phil's instruments are works of art - I think his missus does the amazing inlay work.   Gratuitous pic of my Davidson F5 mandolin attached
