Reduced bridge spacing - impact on tone / volume?

Basic question here - if I wanted to install 16-7mm spaced bridge on 4 string jazz, is there any impact on volume and / or tone?

Wasn't sure how essential it was for strings to pass through the centre of the pole pairs on single coils (assumed default design based on 19mm) , or if this varied across manufacturers.. Or is any difference so slight you wouldn't notice?

I've fitted Badass bridges to all my Jazz basses and left the saddles ungrooved - this gives a bridge string spacing of about 17mm and I've never noticed any change in sound from the previous splayed arrangement. This is with pickups from different manufacturers in all three as well.

I think you'll do fine, and find it much easier to play...I did. The only problem is that it feels a bit odd going back to a wide spacing - you'll want 17mm on everything :)
