For sale Phil Jones Bass Double Four - £285

I’m Selling my Phil Jones bass Double Four – These are great amps with a sound and clarity I'd associate with bigger amps, and capable of surprising volumes for its size. It has 70 watt output (RMS), and sounds hi fi, especially compared to other practice amps.

These sound great with electric, and double basses, and can handle low B strings with ease, producing a powerful, clear bass fundamental without distortion.

 The amp section includes:

Low and high input selector and mute switch

Mute led indicator which also doubles as a clipping indicator

Eq and gain structure controls

Aux input with dedicated volume control

Headphone socket

Line out

It’s solidly built with metal knobs, control panel, and protection bars, and has a robust rubber carrying handle.  Very light at only 8.8 lbs / 4kg.

Sale is because I've got my eye on something expensive and need to generate some funds. I’m based in Shtrewsbury by the way. Collection welcome, but can also ship at buyers expense. Any questions please let me know.

Please look out for other for sale posts as I'm also selling a Genz Benz Streamliner 900, Squier VM ’77 Jazz Bass, Barefaced gen 3 Big Baby 2, and a Stagg EUB with lots of accessories.

Thanks for looking!

Any ideas how much UK postage would be on this?

Depends where you're based really. Where are you?

Not sure if this is any help but I was asked to ship mine within the UK and with UPS on a next day, fully insured for £300, it was £20.  You can get cheaper but UPS are definitely the best.

Hi Rob,

Yes, it's still available, and am more than happy to ship. I'm in Shrewsbury, so quite a way from where you are.

Switch to PM, and we can sort something out.

Many thanks

Worth saying I use a double four regularly as a small session amp, and unlike most PJB stuff Ive tried , it gives a nice old school sound.

Its light, portable, and because it's 20v , you can run it off a laptop battery.

Hope this is useful.

Yes, thanks for your comments. I must admit I haven't tried it with a battery, but yes, that's possible too.

Great little amp, still available!

Very Reluctantly nd hesitantly, I'm looking at selling my retro 610.
Serial no. 013, it's in fantastic condition and is by far the best sounding cab I've ever owned.
      Best things about it are:
      - vintage tone and volume
      - big cab that I've always been able to move myself
      - fits in the small boot of a skoda fabia
It's well looked after and a month or so ago was back at barefaced hq to have. Black grille. Whilst there they cemented down the tolex and gave it all a once over, so it really is in top condition.
Comes with a silver grille cloth if you want to change it, and a cover which is a bit worn, but has plenty of miles in it.
I won't post this, collect or meet only. Wellingborough, Bedford, stevenage areas of the country typically.
Happy to try and answer any questions. Thanks

PRICE OF £950 WAS FOR TWO CABS - ONE NOW SOLD - BIG BABY T STILL AVAILABLE £450
I have amended this ad since placing it a couple of days ago. I have sold a Gen 3 Big Baby and thought my other cab was a Gen 2 Big Baby, but apparently it's a BB T  GEN 2 which is a different spec. This was an honest error on my part as I bought it on here used about five years ago and didn't know the difference.
The £950 price tag which will have raised your eyebrows and may even have led you to read this ad to see what was so special about it, was in fact for the two cabs. I can't figure how to change the price in the price field in the post?
THE PRICE FOR THIS BIG BABY T IS £450.
So I am now relisting with an accurate technical spec from Barefaced in the link below and photos of the Big Baby T:
      https://barefacedbass.com/product-range/big-baby.htm
I thought it best to amend the ad as I didn't want to mislead anybody else
Cab is in good nick, works perfectly, all feet present, corner plates, original handle (which had a rubber sleeve which was prone to disintegration) replaced. No trades thanks as it has been replaced with a Super Midget.
I live in Romiley which is near Stockport, which in turn is near Manchester if you still haven't heard of it! I'd be willing to drive up to 80 miles or so to deliver/meet up, again for some sort of adjustment in the price. I'm sure something can be worked out.
Any questions at all just fire away?

My BB2 gen 3: Tremendous cab, powerful & light. I'm not gigging at the moment and using a powered cab at home. Bought a couple of years ago from this esteemed parish and used occasionally.
There's loads of information on the web about this cab & Barefaced has plenty here too: https://barefacedbass.com/product-range/Big-Baby-2.htm
No dings, handle is secure, feet are solid. Padded cover by Hotcovers included.
      Collection from South London SE24.
      Sale only, no trades!

      Now £3000.00

      Hello all!
This is a feeler for the sale my awesome condition 1973 / 74 Fender Jazz bass in Sunburst.
Its RW board, block inlays and bound.
Photos are here in my photobucket album -
      http://s1341.photobucket.com/user/bassintheface/library/Fender Jazz Bass 1973 - 1974
It's in really excellent condition with only a couple of minor chips which I've tried to clearly show on the pics.
The serial number on the neck plate is 509063 which is 1973 / 1974 which puts it as one of the last 4 bolt neck versions out of Fullerton before they went to the bullet truss rod and 3 bolt neck in 1974 / 75.
The CTS pot codes date the bass to 5th Week 1974 - Jan / Feb (1377405) so the feedback on the age was that it was likely put together very late 1973 or very early 1974 - as you know with Fender around this time, its a combination of date stamps that help you get an age of an instrument.
It comes with a generic hardcase and re issue versions of the pickup cover and ashtray from a USA 70's reissue.
I will get neck end photos and pickup photos - from memory, you can only see a stamp on the bridge pickup now since the rewind of the neck pick up - its 5 years or so since Matt had it open, so will check  his photos and hopefully  add to the photobucket album above - if not, I'll have to get it opened up.
I bought it from a friend around 5 or 6 years ago and the story was (note that this is completely unsubstantiated) that it belonged to Andy Scott of the Sweet and was used for recording /demos and never gigged, hence the condition. I really don't know if this is true and no one will ever know, but Andy Scott is from my hometown of Wrexham so it is plausible.
The bass had been unplayed for a number of years prior to my purchase and upon getting it, the neck pickup didn't work and the elecs were intermittent and crackly.
I swiftly sent it over to the very excellent Matthew John Bascetta in Chester - http://www.mjbluthier.co.uk/
for a full clean, pro set up and a rewind of the neck pick up - Matt is also the guy behind the excellent 'House of Tone' pickups - https://www.houseoftonepickups.com/
and he did a full rewind using period correct wire and hand winding, inc wax potting - you can see him at work below.
It now plays beautifully and sounds, IMO awesome!
Feel free to ask any questions - I'd just appreciate PM's with an expression of interest initially as I really don't want to sell it being honest, but it lives at home (non smoking household) and  don't gig it our of fear of damaging it.
You won't find many in this condition.
      No trades, viewing welcome.
      Cash on collection or bacs.
I don't want to post this out of fear of it being damaged!
