Tobias Pro6 (6 String, early Gibson) PRICE DROP: £400 / Listed on eBay.
£700

Recommended Posts

Also listed on eBay at auction.

My lovely Tobias Pro6 I am really struggling to find a specification list for this, which is a shame. What I can tell you is that it is NOT a pre-Gibson Tobias and has had a refit with a set of EMG pickups.

I believe it is purple heart along with what Hell Zero here has identified:

Hell Zero:

"The neck is made out of wenge and maple with a rosewood fretboard. The wings of the body are made out of maple."

The bass plays and sounds great, it has a closer string spacing then most basses, nothing hugely noticeable though and if anything it helps.

It has some cosmetic damage which is fairly minimal though as I struggled to photograph it. Most of it is on the backside of the body.

It does, have a scratchy volume knob, however, it does work fine on full volume, all the other pots are fine and they are pick up blend, bass boost/cut, treble boost/cut.

It has a pretty trustworthy Tobias soft case included too.

Any questions then please just ask. 1f642.png

Price drop: £400, shipping not included.

Thank you for viewing

Thank you that fills in a technical gap. It really is a great instrument and sounds great. Like I say, reluctant sale, will be relieved to see it go to a good home though.

Lovely start up bass for anybody looking to delve right in. :)

Me too; was the 5 string and was called Toby Pro -  one of the best players I ever had, wish I'd been smart enough to swap the pups.

I played a 4 string version in a shop 23 years ago and I still think of it now!  If only I had the £500 for it back then!!!

I had always been keen on Tobias basses and I wasn't disappointed when I bought this by any stretch of the imagination.

Thank you very much for the extra info, I wouldn't have 100% known.

The pick-up swap has certainly been welcomed since I have owned it, it sounds great.

Thank you for all of your comments, the bass is still available. :)

A question for Admin if it gets read; Is there any chance I can change this thread to a different bass? I'd like to withdraw this sale as I have had a change of heart and would much rather advertise my tasty 5 string Fretless Warwick Infinity.

You would need to start a new thread as StuartB says.

Thank you to everybody here for you help and your comments and apologies for not replying to everybody directly. I have been offline for a while and now have the tech power to be back.

This bass is still up for sale, it is lovely and has a well padded Tobias soft case to go with it. :)

Thank you all for looking.

Nice basses these and you've fixed their only weak spot by changing the pickups.

The scratchy volume pot is an easy fix, spin back and forth through its full rotation quickly a good few times, remove the knob, spray in some switch cleaner, refit the knob and repeat the spinning, job done.

I had one for years and loved it.

Looking for someone selling a Takamine TB10 or earlier model. Prefer a model with fret markings. Must be in the UK.

I am selling my Eastwood Pocket bass, its in new condition, ill health and favourite basses means that this was rarely out if its case.
I went through a phase of thinking that I needed to buy a bass for all eventualities, this was to be more noodling sofa bass, in reality I play only in the Magic Kingdom/Man Cave/Spare Room, the Nate Mendel is my goto.
This bass comes with the Eastwood hardcase that you dont get when buying the bass from Eastwood, its an added extra.
Price would be £500 collected, courier could be arranged if needed.
The thought to list this bass is a work based flash of genius, I will take some pictures tonight, but its essentially as new condition.

      Hello,
So for sale is my 1970's Kay K1B. This is a shortscale bass that was made in Taiwan under the 'Kay' brand name, as part of a collection of guitars that were essentially knock-off's of well-known brands. A quick google search and you'll find Kay look-a-likes for Fenders, Ric's and Gibsons - which is what the K1B is.
It's a short scale bass with one pickup, one tone and one volume. It sounds great - loads of vintage, low-end thump. The pickup is still nice and strong, and the electronics are in full working order. The tone control works, but it's essentially thump or more thump, so don't expect and crispy high's from this bass! The bridge cover unscrews revealing the original strip of foam stuck underneath (as well as a very unusual bridge). Truss rod seems in working order.
Overall it is in very good condition - a few chips here and there but considering its age, it's excellent. The chap I bought it from told me that he was the second owner - the original owner bought it new, hardly played it, before retiring it to the back of his wardrobe for decades. Apparently, the strings (flatwounds) are original to the bass, so they should hold some value in themselves! The volume pot has been replaced (I have the broken original if you want to take it), but aside from that, it's all original.
Looking for £300 - I know these were budget back in the day, but they are increasingly collectable and this one is in such great condition. There is one on eBay for £350, and they have gone on Reverb for silly prices.
Based in Bristol, happy to ship at buyers expense. Unfortunately, the bass does not come in a case but I can package safely. If you'd like to come and try it out then feel free.
EDIT: I've had some time this afternoon to quickly record some examples on this bass. All of these were recorded through my Ampeg B15, mic'd with a CAD GXL3000, into a Focusrite Scarlett, into Logic. No EQ was used, just a touch of compression.
      Thanks,
      Chris.

REDUCED!! £1000 takes this puppy home!

I'm not able to make friends with the mighty 6, so I'm offering her to someone who might tame her.
US made, and close to mint condition. The truss rod cover is missing, and that is the only fault I can find.
The previous owner swapped the bridge for a Hipshot unit for some reason. Nothing wrong with the original, that you'll get as well. Will even send with it a new set of strings.
      Shipping to western Europe included.
