New Tecamp combo day..

Well I just picked up myself a TecAmp Classic 212 combo, I wasn’t looking to buy anything as this gives me three rigs, however I’ve always been interested to see what these can do. I’ve always been a combo man and have had most of the best of them, Walkabouts, both 12 and 15, SWR Redhead, Markbass 12 combo and the 210 combo, Ampeg B-15 and the very heavy, very reasonable priced and excellent sounding Peavey Bam 210 combo.

and having taken my new toy to rehearsal yesterday I can say that I am extremely pleased with this. It’s loud, it’s light, it’s even got wheels on the back, and sounds lovely, thick and creamy, what an excellent combo this is.

the gold standard is always going to be the Mesa Boogie Walkabout (the 15 is my preference), however this is right up there.

Im guessing that the new Eich combos are the same as these with a few tweaks and different branding, either way, this is rather excellent and will get gigged on Friday night 😁🎶🎵🎶

Congrats on the new purchase!

Mesa do make a gold standard combo, don't they just! So if this is on a par with your Mesa Walkabout that is high praise indeed.

I suspect this will have even more headroom than your WA combo particularly with its 2x12 cab, and having heard how much better my Markbass head sounded through @OsirisTecamp 2x12 I can believe this will be really good!

Forgot to mention I had an AER amp one, customer services second to none, I bought my amp one second hand, it was five years only and started farting out, sent it back to AER to repair and they couldn’t find the problem, so they just sent me a brand spanking new style one....

i sold it though 😬

So that's actually really interesting.

The two reasons I steer very clear of AER Amp Ones are price (currently £1,315 new at G4N) and lack of power (200W through a 1x10) which for me is just not going to cut it with a full rock band. I do prefer to have 500W through a 1x12 as a minimum on tap, to give me enough headroom and so that I don't need to be constantly pushing my combo to its limit and thereby increasing the chance of it up blowing / farting out.

What made you decide to move yours on?

Ahhh.......but you have yet to try the AER amp One combos!

It had incredible sound for a 200watt combo with a single 10 inch speaker, but as you say, without pa support it ain’t gonna cut a loud gig by itself.

Forgot to mention that for me it’s all about size and weight. I gig in a hilltop village and nearby seaside chiringuitos (beachbars) with really crap access so the size /weight /sound equation is super critical. I have AER AMP THREE which suits me well but it does have PA support usually. I have yet to try anything better that meets the equation’s requirements. Of course, there are better sounding combos but they just fall short on the schlepping end. The Markbass 121 is close but no cigar. Would I pay the full retail for the AER ......errr, no - just could not manage it?!

Glad you like the Tecamp and if you or other members have any ideas on tiny combos that would suit my situation, I am all ears.

How about the tecamp 112, similar weight size and power to the Mark bass 121 but a warmer sound...

I've not had the chance to try one of these, but if I was still in the market for a combo and had AER Amp One money to spend, with your specific requirements, this is what I would go for. It looks like it has all your bases covered (excuse the deliberate pun) in terms of size / weight / sound.
