MusicMan Joe Dart Signature Model

Musicman published a few videos on YouTube a few years ago with Joe demonstrating some of their basses - perhaps this is a partnership they've been working on for a while.

It didn't sound like he's using flats in the video @eude posted.

He may not be using them in the vid. However Eb cobalt flats don't sound like traditional flats anyhow And have more a roundwound tone.

Saw the mighty Vulfpeck on Monday past in Dublin, Joe used his new Sterling for the full show.

Sounded like flats indeed but the FOH sound of his bass was poor. Lacked any definition compared to his J tone. Met Theo after and he said that they have a new FOH engineer on this tour, so that could be to blame.

Saw them Tuesday night in Dublin,

I was standing directly in front of the stage,

I loved his tone,
It had a percussive punch that the jazz doesn't have,
More mids coming through too,
Bass sounded extremely articulate especially on fast passages,
You could hear every note!

friends who were in the balconies were very dissapointed with the FOH sound,

The venue is an old theatre,

I was impressed with his sound.

Try the Ab Cobalt flats, they have a more flat sound (they go flat by one more).

:D

Likewise, I was front and centre (just over to the right a little facing Joe). His tone was on point, sounded great, almost preferable over the jazz tone... nice to see him going back to his bass roots. Curious if the new album will feature it at all?

It was seeing Joe play this bass in the It Gets Funkier video that made me seek to get a Stingray style bass equipped with flats, ending up with a Sandberg Basic and TIs. Such a great tone that I was kinda gutted that he played Jazz basses on almost everything since!

I keep looking for one of these. Usually in the US only, making them more expensive than they should be....

I wouldn’t bother TBH, I understand Carlo Robelli are just cheap Chinese guitars that serve as in-house brand for a couple of US stores, kinda like Harley Benton at Thomann. Much better options out there!

Yeah I knew that, but I spotted one for £80 and didn’t jump. Would’ve been a laugh for that.

Would he be the first bass player to get an official Music Man signature model?

If they even sell it to the public.

High profile Musicman Artists get their basses and guitars however they want: necks, custom finishes and colors that didn't exist, electronics, discontinued features. Been this way for many years. So far, none of the others have gotten their custom model sold as a production item.

Musicman also snagged Timmy C back into fold (his best bass tone was Rage's first album), and they also snagged Stefan Lessard. So they've gained some good visibility recently.

The first RATM album sold me to Musicman basses....definitely his finest tone.

Don't get me wrong, I love the tone on that album and my Stingray but, personally, his grindy Jazz Bass tone on Evil Empire makes me salivate a little more...

Yeah, there’s the petruttci, morse, valentine, st Vincent too

The Axis model started as an Eddie Van Halen model I think...

but id say they’re more famous for basses than guitars.

Tony Levin had an OLP model too.

They've got a fair few guitar sigs.

As far as I know they've never released an official signature bass.

Yeah, as Andy mentioned above, the OLP Tony Levin is the only signature bass Musicman have done. They've never done one in their premium line before, closest was their "inspired by Tony Levin" (again) Sledge Stingray & Sabre...

Musicman did not own OLP. totally separate company that makes copy instruments. They also made a Spector bass copy along side the MM style instruments.

It was a close as they’ve come to doing a Signature bass thus far 😂😉

Jack Stratton talks a little about the new bass in this video about at about 26.12.

Hes quite vague and the issue of general release seems to be mostly focussed on how EBMM do business and how it may be slightly at odds with how Vulfpeck operate. Interesting....
