That works really well. I've never once played a Status but I would love to try one.

Looks really good that H.  Not doing my Status GAS any good at all.  Missing my old Streamline but can't decide which bass to cull to enable an acquisition.  A nice replacement (fretted) neck on my MM Fretless might be the order of the day!

There is a nice looking Series 2 for sale at Bass Direct at the moment 😀

You're just making it worse H.  I really like the Stealth 5 in the for sale section but would have to sell my least used fretted bass (a bass of a variety that is 'unmentionable') to enable the purchase or risk being emasculated by she who must be obeyed!

Yes, I saw that. It looks great.

I would say that if you’ve found a Rickenbacker that you’re 100% happy with, don’t get rid of it unless you’re completely done with the brand.

I’d still buy the Stealth tho 😀

Yup, it's one of the good ones - doesn't get used in the current band though (Mustangs - go figure?).

I'd love to buy the Stealth but the run of new bed, new tumble dryer and new washing machine ('Has to be a Miele' - the wife) has put paid to that!

Your wife has good taste. Miele are really good machines.

I like that but know very little about them, apart from 2 minutes playing on one at during a bass bash!

Having had a think about how I was going to word my reply to Fender, I sent an e-mail off to them and have had a further response from them today.

Thankfully they seem to be taking this matter a little more seriously now and have offered to have the bass collected so that it can be inspected at Fender UK.

Although I haven’t mentioned what has happened to the bass since the start of this thread, my plan is to negotiate the return of just the neck. Having spoken with Rob at Status, I think it should be fairly clear to anyone who knows a bit about guitars that the neck is shot, without it being attached to the rest of it 😬.

I’ve tried taking a photo of what the neck looks like. It’s not a great picture to be honest, but it’s the best my phone will do.

I’m not even sure what a neck like this should look like when it is unstressed, but I'm fairly sure it's not like this!

Wow. Epic truss rod fail.

Be prepared ...Fender may well compound this situation by replacing it!

Just catching up on this thread rather late in the day. Glad you have sorted a solution that works for you. I own a Fender Flea and a Status - love them both but cannot think of two more different instruments so fascinated by this combination. I had to tweak my Flea bass neck a few weeks ago which I put down to the weather - it was during that really hot part of summer. But nothing as severe as yours. Would be very interested to hear what Fender say when they have looked at this properly.

The initial feedback from Fender wasn't great to be honest, however, since my sense of humour failure, they have apologised and are arranging to have the neck collected (by UPS of all people 🙄) so that they can examine it.

They have said once they confirm the neck is a write off, they will send me a replacement (neck).

Well, the neck was sent on it's way yesterday. It's going to be interesting to see what they make of it. I have no high expectations of a quick turnaround, that's if UPS don't lose it 😀

Let’s hope UPS don’t damage it! 😂

UPDATE:

I still have not received the replacement neck from Fender. I think they may be growing the trees it will be made from. I’ve had to enquire a few times for updates and one of the most recent communications indicated that there was a ‘known issue’ with the necks on these basses.

Quote:

‘The known issue seemed to affect only a small batch of Flea Bass necks that for some reason were failing in terms of twisting and bowing with the trussrod unable to offer any relief at all.’

I bought mine from what I believe to be the initial run that was shipped to the UK. This is probably worth noting if you bought or own one from the same batch. I’m happy to forward you the e-mail from Fender if you have any ‘out of warranty’ issues like I’ve had.

A known issue?

Why the heck are they dragging their undercarriage then?  As a working musician you could be at a serious loss due to the delay.  In engineering, for example,  tool makers like Snap-On have a no-quibble lifetime guarantee on their tools.  If you present them with a broken one, they replace it immediately and then look at the causes of failure for product development to see how the tool can be improved.  The mechanic can carry on working and everyone benefits.

With a known issue there is no reasonable excuse for holding you up.  What a bunch of mother-fenders!

I remember when you posted this last year, you would’ve thought they would have sorted this by now, have you emailed the director.
