FS: '73 Precision Fretless maple board **SOLD** £1000

Not happy to be selling this, but am offloading a lot of stuff at present and in doing so am trying to balance sentiment with sensibleness. I'm also trying to reduce the amount of gear I have because it's nice to have (i.e., it gets the dopamine pathways going) and just stick to the stuff that it's useful to have. What I've always like about this bass over and above the tone and the playability is the fact that it's 45 years old and looks incredible. However, in real terms neither of those facts come through on tape, and I've got other fretless basses that, whilst not having the same mojo or kudos, do the same job.

This bass is in VERY good condition, frankly I suspect it sat in its case unused for around 30 years before the previous owner, IIRC a session player, used it occasionally for 10 years or so before selling to me. He sold it to me for £1000 which is a very good price, and that's what I'm selling it for here; however if it doesn't sell here and I have to sell it on eBay, it'll be at around £1800 (if I sell it there for £1000 it will simply end up being bought by a dealer and sold for £1800 anyway, and in that case I'd prefer that I make the money than a dealer does

Comes with a generic case. Collection from Canterbury, meet-up in London or courier at buyer's expense.

Indeed it is mate, but like I said, that's what it cost me.

Quick update in response to a few PM's, courier costs will be extra, especially if you're buying from Europe! I'm sending this fully insured so it's about £50 to the UK (using UPS Premium) and perhaps £70 to Europe. I'll refund any difference between what you pay and what it costs of course, this isn't eBay after all

It's what I paid Steve, the guy I bought it from was a real nice guy and anted it to go to a player. I'm doing the same. I keep asking myself why I'm not trying to make a few hundred quid as I could certainly use the money, but I guess the emotional/ethical brain is a powerful thing.

I think it's admirable. 

It's what I would do (and have done) for friends before, and you're extending that to the Basschat family.

Beedster is one of the few people here who do this. I do the same with my sales here and play the vigilante here and there.... 

It is becoming more the norm that profit is being gained on sales at BC from items bought here. While not illegal and within guidelines it is totally uncalled for IMHO. 

 

Chris, if it was a fretted P/J id be there in a tick since I also live in Canterbury (totally different bass but hey).

Thanks for the above guys, much appreciated. Yes, whilst I've always seen eBay as fair game, I still feel that what makes this place special is that even when profits are being made, there's some proportionality to it, and this is assured by mods when they can and by the occasional less than well discussed comment in FS threads (of which a couple of members are masters). And it generally works. In contrast, I sold a bass on eBay a while back (not the sort you can sell here if you get my meaning) and the buyer had listed it at a 180% markup on eBay using my photos within minutes and before he'd even paid. I then withdrew it and refunded him, not only because I was a bit miffed but also because he kept insisting on sending a courier rather than collecting it in person or letting me send to him, and then I had weeks of grief from him, eBay and Paypal about the alleged £50 courier fee he'd paid, despite my telling him I wasn't going to allow him to do so. It's nice to feel good about buying and selling, and it mostly does here, whilst every time I sell anything on eBay I'm nervous for around 45 days until the complaint (or fraudulent 'item not as described' claim) date has passed
