Help needed on impedance for SWR Redhead extension cab

Evening all,

i want to do two different things with my Redhead, first of all it says that the jack output to run an extension cab must be minimum of 4 ohms, all of the cabs that I have are 8 ohms but I can daisy chain them together. Would it be safe to run two 2 x 10 8 ohm cabs together therefore making a 4 ohm load?

Also, can  you completely disconnect the combos internal speakers and use the head to power other cabs? If so, what impedance should they be?

thanks

From memory, the Redhead runs into a 4ohm internal load, and can be run without its own speakers.  It will run down to 2ohms..but it’s not a good idea..it will get very hot and has no active cooling fan.

When you use an 8ohm extension cab, it produces less output than the 4ohm internal speakers..so it’s not that useful. The best extension cab would be a 4ohm Goliath jnr 2x10 but I’d be careful about it getting too hot.
