“It’s one of the good ones” - Used when selling a Fender bass from the 70s to assure a buyer this particular instrument was on the right side of Fenders notoriously iffy QC at the time... Although as every bass sold on BC seems to be “one of the good ones” I’m not sure where this accusation comes from 🤔

Forty years of weeding out the bad ones will surely help...

Hmm.

Mahrooschick Jake 5

Peavey Foundation 5

Gibson Thunderbird

Gibson LP DC

Squier JV Precision

Harley Benton Shorty Precision

Hondo Alien, modded.

Hohner B2B

Honcore - my 32" scale Hondo/Encore bitsa.

Sprackenbacker.

2 that don't count

Stagg EUB, modded.

Sigma electro-acoustic

So 10, if you don't count the two that don't count.

Not too bad, I've usually had more.

I had to check to make sure I didn't reply yet. Hope I'm not incorrect. This is what's left, or what's been aquired, in order...

Ibanez 8-string, de-fretted with a claw hammer

DanElectro Longhorn Re-issue. The cheap, real re-issue, not the one with "better" hardware

ESP LTD

Hartke Bass P/J w/ burned-out P, defretted w/ a soldering iron (I talked to my luthier this time)

Ibanez Acoustic AEB5E-BK 3U-01 (it's a cheap one that was given to me, it's fun to hash around on)

And then there are my two Chapman Sticks, one mid-80's Ironwood, and my '08 Bamboo Grand

Damnation, I forgot, I also have a Danelectro 56 single cutaway.  Oops.

I’m currently on five :

Fender US Standard Precision x 2

Fender US Professional Jazz x 2

Fender US Deluxe Active Precision

What do you think about the V -Mod pickups in the Professional Jazz ? Seems to be some mixed owner reviews..cheers Dave

I really like them Dave, I do think the Custom Shop 60s that were in the previous US Standards are a bit better but not to the point where I’ll replace the V-Mods, so there’s not much in it. Decent pickups, a bit more modern sounding is how I’d describe them.

38 (plus a baritone guitar that I sometimes use to double bass parts so I like to think of it as a bass rather than a guitar).

It's embarrassing really. My excuse is that I have recording studio and mostly do studio work these days so I need basses that will cover different sounds/genres. To be honest I don't really NEED them. A decent passive P-bass can work for pretty much anything and music is only a part time thing for me with very little money in it. But a P-bass is not always the BEST choice. And I'm a total gear nut so although I don't really need all these basses I still WANT them! 😁

Back when I was a "one band bassist" and played a lot more gigs I mostly just had a modded Squier Affinity P and a MIM Fender J as backup. They both sounded great and were cheap enough not to worry about damage or being stolen.

That's an impressive looking instrument! I've always been fascinated by the Chapman Sticks but I've never tried one. How long does it take to learn it properly? I imagine it must be so different from bass that you are starting pretty much from scratch even if you're a decent bass player?

Today I'm on four basses, two guitars. One multi amp set up, one bass gig rig, one bass multi effects, a new guitar multi fx, an acoustic guitar multi fx.... A mic, mixer, zoom handheld recording device.

I have no excuses. I have very little time to play but I like the chase of buying something and trying it out. Everything I have music wise is sellable, though I love my Kramer fretless as it was an 18th birthday gift, and my Stingray was bought brand new and would lose too much money if I sold it so I'm keeping it forever... And its my number 1 bass. I'd like other basses, currently listing after another fretless, but I don't think I'll bother. Really, 4 basses is at least 2 too many.

The guitars? I want to get back in to writing songs and do some recording. I have an electro acoustic and a squier Telecaster, both are adequate for my dreadful guitar playing.
