I have just the Status, Pedulla and Stingray with me plus the one I made a couple of years ago. The rest are in storage or at Mr Shukers waiting to have work done. I'm down to 6 now! Yes, high-level GAS is when ignition occurs, your buttocks get singed and you leap up and get the credit card out! I'm down to two, but trying to justify a Vintage 4V MN purchase. It's very affordable, it's the right colour combo (no refin needed), the hardware and electrics are of sufficiently good quality to make upgrades uneccesary, it plays very nicely, it sounds great, it looks the business and... you just can't have too many P basses! Surely you also need a fretless with flats and another with rounds? That would make 4... then of course you'll need back-ups for those... so at least six. Better make it eight, just to be on the safe side... then one for noodling in the shed and another for noodling at the office. A Fender Deluxe PJ (in traditional sunburst) I'm very much a hobbyist, with just a handful of gigs notched up so the two basses has been perfectly adequate for me. Each bass is dedicated to a specific band, the 5 string J bass for a classic rock / pop covers band and the 4 string PJ for the heavier alternative rock band. The singist for the latter wants to get more serious about gigging, if that happens I think I'll pick up a Fender Nate Mendel P sig or a Lakland Skyline 44-64 custom as a back up / alternate tuning bass for the Deluxe. My aim is to only own basses I will actively use / have a reason to own for so i've maintained a one in / one out policy and fortunately don't really have GAS for any more basses right now,. A 2003 Yamaha BB604. A 2013 white/rosewood/tort MIJ Fender Mustang. Oh yeah and two electric guitars (mid 90s MIJ sunburst strat and an Epiphone Casino Gary Clark Junior) plus three acoustics (an early 2000s Crafter DE7 which I gig all the time, plus a small travel size Tanglewood and a now fairly wrecked Hohner I bought at Argos in 1988 - the guitar I learned on). I used to like buying and selling and treating myself to gear when I was gigging a lot more regularly. I sold off the stuff I wasn't using which was taking up room and meant thousands of pounds was locked up in it. I could easily live with just the Precision, the Crafter acoustic and the Strat to be honest, and it may end up that way at some point. Stresses me out when I have loads of unused kit lying around.
