I have 4, but work on the principal that since they are all short scale it only counts as 2.

Working on T-bay's mathematical formula of the number of bases you should have is n + 1 where n=the number you currently have there is plenty of scope left.

PS: I also apply the same calculation to push bikes.

Just snuck up to 3.

Shuker 5 string fretless P/Tele - main gigging bass.

Build Your Own Bass seafoam green 4 string precision - bit of fun parts build project.

Cort GB55 JJ metallic seafoam green 5 string Jazz bass - back up for gigging as I'm off on tour, so thought I'd go for something the complete opposite to the Shuker.

Two and a bit,

Fender MIA P. Black, White scratchplate, Maple.

Squier CV 70s P. Black, Black, Maple. Bought as a backup, but actually gets more playing time.

I can only play one at a time.

The bit is my brothers old bass -which is in really poor condition.  I have no idea what it is but he was a lefty and its not worth converting.

Dont ask about the guitars though.

I managed to get up to seven, and decided it was time to implement a one-in, one-out policy - partly for space reasons. The trouble is, if I wanted to get another, I'm not sure which one I'd move on in its place...

I can't sell the kit-built Precision for sentimental reasons.

I probably can't sell the parts build, as it's since become an experimental three-pickup oddity, and would have everyone here marvelling at my awful botched routing over on the "eBay Weird and Wonderful" forum within minutes of me posting it for sale.

I don't want to flog the Epi EB-3, as the resale value is non-existent, and ever since I popped a DiMarzio Model One in to replace the stock mudbucker, it's been really enjoyable to play again.

I don't want to flog the T-bird, as it's still my second favourite.

I don't want to flog the Schecter, as it's my current favourite.

The 8-string? Maybe, but I'd have to trade it in for a different 8-string. Not beyond the realms of possibility, but I'm not really looking at the mo.

The Tony Franklin? Still my favourite fretless. It's not going anywhere.

NB I've mostly put this all down in writing for my own benefit, as if I don't keep reminding myself of all the above, I'll start trying to justify a Sandberg or some weird and exotic fretless...

I met up with chimike yesterday - he's local to me. What a lovely guy.

Anyway, he admitted that he owns 40 basses.......

I guess he didn’t tell you how many amps he owns!

(Apparently, he doesn’t even know that number :-))

I have 5 at the moment, but it changes pretty regularly. At one stage I had 13, but the 5 I have now are much nicer than most of the basses I've had in the past. 4 of them are definitely keepers, the other will probably go soon enough, but only to make way for something else.

So I have 5 basses, and I don't really get a chance to use them all. There's usually 2 or 3 in regular use, 1 is a back up to my main gigging bass and 1 is hardly ever out of its case.

So if you have not than 20 basses, do you actually play them all, do you even keep them in a playable condition?  Is there a few regularly played instruments?

I'd have a much bigger collection if I had the time/space/money, but like motorbikes I already have more than I can actually use, even though I'd like more.

I have access to a decent climate controlled storage facility/practice studio...... so they aren't kept in the house. The basses.... not my wife & son!! 😂
