GK MB 800 DI not working

Recommended Posts

Ive had the amp for a couple of years, and had a bit of trouble with it not producing any noise for the first 10-15 mins of powering it up. Pretty sure ive posted about that before so im not going to ask about that.

We went in to the studio last week and for the first time i used the XLR out, or at least wanted to. With the pre EQ button engaged i got no signal at all out of it, with it set to post there was a very quiet distorted tone. ive tried different leads and used the same lead fo rmy Markbass amp and the leads are fine.

The speaker outputs work fine, so its just the DI.

Having spoken to Guitar Guitar (who i got it form) they have suggested talking to GK directly, as ill have to pay for the repair (i think not). Ive not opened it up yet, might do that tonight, but im wondering if its worth it or i just need to get GK to sort it. it could be just a lose wire, but knowing my luck it wont be as simple as that.

I was just wondering if anyone else has had this issue.

Cheers Guys.

GK's importers over here have said send it them and they will have a look at it free of charge, and then give me a quote for fixing it.

The place (very well known on here, but not a specialist bass shop) i got it from sent me this when i mentioned the 6 year law, and that i believe its a manufacturing fault.

" That is if it turns out, i.e can be proven to be a manufacturing defect which is impossible to do given that the XLR has only been checked 2 years after purchase. The retailer and the supplier have responsibilities to the customer to supply functioning goods but the customer is also responsible for checking all the functions of the device upon receipt and reporting any issues within 30 days. Anything outside of this period falls under the warranty which in this case is 1 year so even the warranty expired over a year ago "

The only time ive needed the DI out was for this recording session, and i did ask the engineer to take the feed from my Q/strip anyway, so im loath to spend anything on the amp. I have two DI's on my pedal board, and another map im more than happy to use instead, so i may just not bother getting it fixed.

the map has never cut out as such, its just taken a long time to work in the past, but those were isolated incidents that may or may not have been down to the venue.

Im sure it wont be expensive, but even  the cost of sending it might be more than i want to pay.

I just think that if its an internal issue, then i should expect it to be fixed for nothing, as its not happened due to miss use or damage.
