Warmouth Necks.

These necks look stunning.

I am interested in a J neck. All the necks at warmoth are listed as standard thin. Could anyone advise as to whether these necks are just standard jazz C. I really want a G Lee or Marcus type or a 62RI. I think all of these necks are the 7.25 rad. I just wondered how a warmoth compares to the skinny stuff. I have looked at a lot of spec, but to be honest I am non the wiser. Wondered if anyone had any experience of them.

cheers.

Warmoth J necks are traditionally fuller than standard J type necks. Before i bought mine i did a bit of research on the web and it's quite well known, some people are very put off by it. However i've never been bothered by thicker necks (i've played warwicks for a few years) so i bought it and it's a lovely neck and certainly comfortable to play

Not sure on the spec of mine but it's chunkier than both my jazzes (a squier standard and a home-made fretless)

here's some more opinions:

Thanks for the heads up. I really want skinny. Allparts say they can shave a neck to my spec, but then the warranty is lost. Looks like the 62RI is the spec for me, but they dont come with the blocks ... :)

There is a walnut neck on ebay at the moment.

Any thoughts ...

cheers.

I've a Warmoth GL type & had it sanded down to same spec with no issues other than it still feels sturdier than GL !

No, luthier in Huddersfield did it (Paulmann) & has made us a 'jazz' since then which is even better than Warmoth .. wenge/ebony neck .. gorgeous !

I have a Warmoth neck on my Jazz (which you can see in the Gear Porn section). It's true, it is chunkier front to back than a Fender, although width wise it's the same (1 1/2 inch). I really only notice it if I pick it up after playing my Vigier, which has the thinnest (and best) neck I've ever had my hands on. However, this doesn't mean that the Warmoth neck is any less playable, it's just different. My hands are tiny and it's perfectly comfortable to play. I did enquire about getting it shaved but was advised not to in case the truss rod popped out. Shaving would also invalidate the warranty. The bottom line is it's a bit thicker but no less comfortable than a thinner neck.

If you want a custom neck you could check out USA Custom Guitars. They offer a great selection of profiles and thicknesses on their necks, although they don't offer any "exotic" woods, such as concalo alves, wenge, bubinga etc, but they do birdseye and flame maple. So if you just want a really skinny neck with maple, rosewood or ebony board then they could be worth checking out. I think they do bound and blocked necks as well. One thing to consider with them is the headstock shapes are not exact Fender shapes. Check out their website. Might be worth seeing if anyone on BC has one of their necks to get some opinions.

Good luck!

My Warmoth 50s P has a precision thickness neck with jazz width at the nut (it's supposed to be like that, not a standard J) and I get on with it fine. It seems to fit the hand a bit better and I find my wrist hurts less when playing for long periods of time, at least compared with my JV jazz which has an uber-skinny neck.
