The three tunes i used to always try to get bands I've been in to play were ; Get Down Tonight by KC and the Sunshine Band, Aint Gonna Bump No More ..by Joe Tex and Disco Inferno by Trammps. Not so much for the basslines but because these are great for filling the dancefloor

Great tunes, all of 'em.  KC and the Sunshine Band did some great stuff and pioneered 'disco' styles before everyone else jumped onboard, as well as masterminding the sublime 'Rock your baby' by George McCrae.

Oooh, I think it would be a toss up between two Stones songs 'Torn and Frayed' or 'Can't You Hear Me Knocking'.  Neither of them suitable for an audience who just want to hear 'Brown Sugar', but I always loved playing them with one of my old bands.

Toss-up for me too, this time for the Passions - either Sanctuary or Africa Mine. Not exactly sophisticated numbers, but I really like them. Much better that I'm In Love with a German Film Star.

Just MHO, of course.

'Past the point of rescue' by Mick Hanly.  Bass can be as 'simple' or as complex as you like.  The solo needs perfect phrasing or the whole thing collapses.

'Sweet little rock and roller' by Joe Dolan.  Another relatively 'simple' song that has to be played perfectly as everyone in the audience knows it very well.
