I looked up to see the window cleaner staring in at me. I did the only thing I could in the situation: raised the bottle in greeting then wandered off. In the early 1990s I did have long curly hair (the Jerry Sadowitz bit) and cowboy boots with chains on and a good line in fag-in-gob pouting, but it seems it wasn't enough to guarantee me enduring fame and fortune.
