Hello everybody and greetings from Tyneside. I'm 52, been playing since I was 17 and I use a USA Standard Precision and a 1980 Ibanez Blazer that has been in the wars. You can probably tell there isn't a great deal of tonal variation between these two beasts but I love them both. I'm a no frills bass player and I go for punch and girth as a rule.

I've joined to see what's going on, get some advice on gear, and hopefully contribute something!

Well it's actually quite pleasant here today for a change so I'm off to sit in the garden with a couple of cans.

Welcome Golats.

Hi SpondonBassed. Would that be Spondon in Derby? I used to work there in the 90s at (what was) Courtaulds Chemicals. I spent a happy few years down there.

Yes.

Celanese as was.  It's almost completely demolished now.

That's right - British Celanese! I couldn't remember the old name for it. What a shame it's nearly gone. There were about 1800 people working there when I was there, and about 20,000 in its heyday if I remember correctly.

I think the factory was the main source of income for Spondon families for many years.

Look at Spondon Historical Society for example.  In the gallery there are quite a few images of the factory and workers taken at various times through its history.
