Mini midi Keyboard

hi all

I'm thinking of getting a little keyboard for occasional parts and maybe entering some drum patterns, so looking at a second hand Akai mpk or M-audio something 25 key jobbie, preferably with pads. Are any better or worse than others, or incompatible with W10?

Sage advice welcomed, Cheers

I use an M-Audio Mini 32 Keystation, but will probably change for an Akai MPK, principally for the better pitch bend/modulation, and for the pads. The Mini 32 is fine as far as mini keyboards go, but lacks these functions for Vst control.(It has bend/mod buttons, but they're not at all easy to use, I find...).

Hope this helps.

Cool, would you care to share any reasoning on this?

The pads are more pressure sensitive which means you don't need to bash them to produce sound, great built even though it is plastic, great key response and the pitch/bend works great with that joystick. What not to love about it.

Forgot to mention drivers are up to date so no problems with W10.

Worth considering the Nektar Impact LX 25 as well.

Comparison (shootout) between the Akai and Nektar here.

The Nektar has full size piano Keys, which feel nicer to play, along with proper modulation & pitch bend wheels (rather than the joy stick).

It also has a cc# fader as well, which I prefer for articulation control. (just my opinion of course). The Keys have really nice velocity sensitivity as well.

The pads do the job just fine.

Just under a tenner more than the Akai. But worth it for the full size keys.
