Low tension, bright string suggestions

What kind of DB are you using?  I ask because when I tried Spiro weichs on my Duke, they didn't sound very bright at all. They were very rootsy sounding. Spiro mediums are reportedly brighter but even they didn't brighten up the bass...lol. The mediums are surprisingly less tension on the Duke compared to how they felt on my cheap hybird.

As always, strings sound different on different basses.

I have a Michael Poller bass which I believe is Romanian which currently has innovation Honeys, I have Spiros on a old Boosey and Hawkes and its just night and day.... Lots of volume and projection.

Hey Stevie,

Funny enough, I just put Zyexes Light on my Michael Poller and must say I'm really happy with them. I have an electric bass with steel strings, so I didn't need a very bright sounding double bass, but at the same I was still hoping for some midrange and got all that I wanted.

In terms of playability, in my limited double bass experience, they feel very easy and soft, certainly different world comparing to Helicored Medium.

How are you liking your Helicores Light?

+1 for Zyex strings.  I’m currently using a light set but with a medium E and it all balances out perfectly.

The Zyex lights are indeed light and low tension but still sound growly and great. They bow pretty well too. I think they’re great.
