Yeah I think everyone is right when they say its worth travelling to try a load out. I'm liking the look of Maruszczyk basses. Watched a few Youtube vids and they look right up my street.

I think that one you're looking at is on hold? That's someone telling you to wait.

Oh man they make some stunning instruments!

Well it says on hold, but the option to buy it still functions, so I dont know? Either way you're probably right considering....

I got my Euro 5LX in near-mint condition for £750 and it was worth every single penny - great quality and great tone at a very reasonable price.

Oh you lucky man. I've not seen a used Euro anywhere near that sort of price. Green with envy over here!

Can I throw in a vote for the Yamaha TRB1005 - 35" scale

http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/TRB1005J.html

Brand new for £725!

I just bought one of ebay and it's lovely. Very hi-fi sounding and punchy as hell. You can pick them up used for around £500.

I would also place my vote here! Love my 6 string TRB, also a 35" scale and the low B is probably the best I've played. Very usable EQ at basically all positions. Plus beyond the EQ there are a couple of options under the hood, like splitting the pickups into single coils by way of internal trim pots. All round quality bass

Theres also a nice MTD for £500 in the classifieds but I dont care much for tobacco bursts haha

Theres a lovely trans red one, same model, a few pages further back. It’s more expensive but worth it for the added beauty. I’m frankly surprised it’s hung around so long. I nearly bought it myself a while back...

This one?

Bit too rich for me at that price. It's a stunning bass however. No doubt about that.

Ohh now that is lovely!

Whats the tone like on the Kingstons? I've never really spent a lot of time looking at/listening to MTD's.

It completely depends on what flavour you go for. You have 3 main choices with the Kingstons currently in production -

The Z - loaded with soapbar humbuckers. Complete with pretty wood covers. A Bartolini upgrade pack is available to bring the pickups and preamp up to the spec of MTDs USA handmade basses.

The Super - dual MusicMan style humbuckers with 3 way coil switching. Each pup can be switched between series humbucking/parallel humbucking/single coil mode.

The Saratoga - noiseless Jazz pups, active/passive switching with a dedicated passive tone control, 34” scale instead of the usual 35” and a different body style.

On the used market you can also find older discontinued models such as the Heir (single coil Jazz pup in the neck, MM humbucker at the bridge) and Artist (as above but without the Jazz pup).

To be fair, you pretty much can’t go wrong with any of the models in the Kingston range. When you get to Bass Direct be sure to play a few of them - they have quite a unique feel due to their asymmetric necks. After playing one for a while it just “made sense” in my hand.

The Z & the super sound about right for my needs. Thanks for writing all that out.

I can't get to Bass Direct. They're based in Warwick & I'm up the top end of the Lake District in the Borders. That's a bit further than i'm wanting to drive!

I'd have to say a 5-String USA Musicman SUB, if you can find one.

One of these:

When I played 5-stringers, I had one and it had probably the best Low B I've ever heard.

I know someone that's selling ones of these :)

I love my Cort GB74 and recommend any others in the GB or Artisan ranges. Very easy action, especially for fast finger style , excellent for slapping too.

I keep ending up back on this thread when I see something mentioned on it. These Cort basses look nice and well spec'd. A very gassy thread this one.
