Tigerclaw_x Posted February 21, 2018 Share Posted February 21, 2018 Hey. I have a chance to grab the MIM pickups to go into a Yamaha TRBX 174EW or into Washburn T14Q. Considering it is MIM pickups, and not real fender, I am having doubts. Are MIM Fender (not Squire) pickups any good? How do they compare to REAL fender pickups? Is it worth to use them as an upgrade in simple Yamaha an Washburn basses? Or are the MIM fender gonna be the same as stock Yamaha and stock Washburn? A long time ago they used cheaper ceramic pickups but these days I believe they use alnico like the US Fenders? If so, no idea when they changed but you would be able to tell from a photo. Whether they would be any better than your stock pickups is a gamble though. Personally I'd only get them if they were dirt cheap, otherwise I'd be more inclined to get something more specialist, DiMarzio, EMG, Seymour Duncan etc. 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

The Fender "original" alnico p-bass pickup I replaced it with is slightly better to my ear, but it's not a night & day difference. Lozz196 Posted February 21, 2018 Share Posted February 21, 2018 They`re pretty good - I find them more twangy & aggressive sounding than the ones in the US models but a factor in that might be down to the use of better woods & materials in the US models. When I started playing bass again after a 15 year break I was going to buy one of this range. Local shop didn't stock them so I bought something else.
