Basically alot to love about it. Apart from the pick ups! So any advice on your replacement pick up ideas would be very welcome! Or to put it another way, what are you looking for in a replacement pickup (eg. vintage or modern tone, more low-mid beef, more high-mid punch/clarity, extended lows/highs with scooped mids etc)? ikay Posted February 3, 2018 Share Posted February 3, 2018 (edited) I have Lindy Fralin (standard wind) and Fender Custom Shop 60s in a couple of my basses. Great vintage base tone from both with good punch and clarity depending on how you play. I also have a DiMarzio Area J set on my medium scale jazz. Slightly different animal being humcancelling with Alnico 2 magnets but delivers nOa good vintage single coil sound with enough clarity at the top end (not dark like some hum cancelling types). Or experiment with preamps as chris_b says! I used an Audere JZ3 for several years on my Lakland jazz which added a whole new dimension of flexibility. I generally prefer the more natural and open sound of a passive J or P though (I'm a bit old fashioned).
