Mark Knopfler's solo albums

A friend of mine was one of the engineers on a couple of the 80s records. Apparently Mark asked him to engineer a quick demo, which Matt remembers as one of the most miserable songs he ever heard. A few months later he hears a tune on the radio, and it took him ages to place it, then he remembered the demo. Tina Turner/ Private Dancer. Love Knopfler’s work as i do I think him singing that would be a bit much!

I've seen him do so; alchemy tour if memory serves

Most of the best guitarists from the 60s and 70s would fall into that category. Where would you have gone for a "Rock " guitar lesson back then? they were still making it up in their bedrooms, trying to copy licks from vinyl, like we all were.

Indeed. I remember it well. :)

Nice work Michael, but I think that video would get more hits with a better title. ;)

It's actually pretty apt - it's the noise I made when I realised I hadn't learned the intro...

Did you make it with your mouth, or... :D

Great memory for you though. :)

No need to be shy, if you've done it, flaunt it. I have to be in the mood but I do like a bit of Knopfler on occasion.

Why were neither of you toting the headband, Michael?

No point. We've both got so much hair, it would be totally obscured...

Sailing to Philadelphia is one of my favourite all-time albums. The Americana feel the album has is immensely pleasurable.

Prarie Wedding takes me away to another place, beautiful song.

Ive listened to all the solo CDs now and IMHO the weakest is the 2012 double cd Privateering.

I think it would be a great single-disc.

Yes I agree,  being positive, the 2015 Tracker is a vast improvement IMHO

Mrs Axe and I have all MK's vocal solo albums, and they are her usual choice on long car journeys. Her favourite is Shangri-La.

If you fancy hearing some of the film scores I recommend the compilation Screenplaying, which contains the essential Local Hero.

Yes that's in the post to me, looking forward to it.
