Craig’s list

There appear to be many scam adverts on Craigslist, especially in the London area. Some vintage prices

are ridiculously low, so tread carefully. Couple of original 60’s Jazz basses on there at the moment for just

over £2k for example. If it’s too good to be true then it probably is....

'64 sunburst? Pics taken from genuine dealer Andy Baxter's site, see below. It's a den of thieves. ALL the high end stuff on London Craigslist is a scam. Nobody polices it. Often you see a tragic "avoid this seller, he ripped me off" advert. Run, run away.

Think I've been reasonably lucky with Gumtree round here. Probably bought more than I've sold, although did sell some

JBL PA cabs to a guy from Bristol who saw my advert placed locally, so you never know. I had them advertised for

less on here without any luck too.

Always wary about divulging full contact details until I'm reasonably sure it's okay, but realise it's still a gamble to some extent.

Craigslist has never really caught on in the UK, and as a result, it's populated mostly by scammers, as others have stated above. If it looks to good to be true, it absolutely, definitely is. The site is just an older looking, older feeling, less functional Gumtree anyway.

Craigslist is tricky (I live in the US). There are great buys (and loads of junk), but sellers have to beware of scammers and of intentional slips, like Squiers being advertised as Fenders.

I've only ever used Craigslist to buying stuff when I'm over in New York. The key to any potential purchase is get a phone number and speak to the seller. Ask for further details  (and pics if needed).

If it feels "off", leave it. If it feels okay, then go for it - while being astute.

Saying that, fortunately I've had good experiences so far.
