NAD - Ashdown Toneman 600 (tips for good tone)

I had a toneman combo, great little amp! Stick all the rotary eq dials on 12 o'clock then twiddle from there. I used to have bass at 1 to 2 o'clock, treble at the same then the mids either 12 o'clock or slightly pushed up. Not complicated but gave a good "through the mix" tone with the band when playing either p or j bass.

The EQ button is an on/ off so you can either use the eq or not. For example, if you're running a pre amp pedal then you'd probably want to turn off the amps EQ. I personally never bothered with the deep or bright buttons but others may use them.

I guess I'm the amp marketers worst customer! I want it as basic as possible!

This. And have all the bells and whistles in the 'off' position. If it then sounds OK, leave it. If you do make EQ changes, make them small. Then play a few numbers before you decide if it sounds better or not. Remember that each room you play in may need different settings. As uk_lefty implied, basic is generally best. Clarity is in the mids. If you can't be heard, it's often better to boost your mids slightly than to turn up.
