Lyrics that changed your world

Toddy17

"If you're looking time then you'll be looking until

there ain't not crying at the top of the hill.

And you know darned well you'll be looking still

when you head stops and your body is still."

Also:

"Weaver of Life, at last now I can see

the pattern of my life gone by shown on your tapestry.

After days of wondering I see the reason why.

You've kept it to this minute, because I'm about to die"

Can't say I really know what it means but I love these words.

I'm a dweller on the threshold
And I'm waiting at the door
And I'm standing in the darkness
I don't want to wait no more

I have seen without perceiving
I have been another man
Let me pierce the realm of glamor
So I know just what I am

I'm a dweller on the threshold
And I'm waiting at the door
And I'm standing in the darkness
I don't want to wait no more

Feel the angel of the present
In the mighty crystal fire
Lift me up consume my darkness
Let me travel even higher

I'm a dweller on the threshold
As I cross the burning ground
Let me go down to the water
Watch the great illusion drown

I'm a dweller on the threshold
And I'm waiting at the door
And I'm standing in the darkness
I don't want to wait no more

I'm gonna turn and face the music
The music of the spheres
Lift me up consume my darkness
When the midnight disappears

I will walk out of the darkness
And I'll walk into the light
And I'll sing the song of ages
And the dawn will end the night

I'm a dweller on the threshold
And I'm waiting at the door
And I'm standing in the darkness
I don't want to wait no more

I'm a dweller on the threshold
And I cross some burning ground
And I'll go down to the water
Let the great illusion drown

I'm a dweller on the threshold
And I'm waiting at the door
And I'm standing in the darkness
I don't want to wait no more

I'm a dweller on the threshold
Dweller on the threshold
I'm a dweller on the threshold
I'm a dweller on the threshold

Nothing profound here.....but Ian Hunters mastery of indecipherable language and picture building is insane....ive edited this down a bit.

Alice.

Now Alice needed money I put $10 on the breeze
As the wind died away she sank way below her knees
And as a hurricane passed by she clutched the money from the sky
She must have been at least a fathom high

She works the 42nd beat on 42nd street
With all her golden ambitions and dead rhinestones in her feet
And when a stranger said she sucked she just smiled believing luck
As she climed into his truck to make a buck

Me and my camera eyes sitting on a fence
Laughing at the lights of New York City

Alice..... you remind me of Manhattan
The seedy and the snaz, the shoeboys and the satins
Like a throne made of gilt that too many johns have sat in
Oh, I got my eyes on you

ROLL UP!
See Alice on the palace where her name adorns the boards
Ain't no flash in her Cannes, she got the willpower of a horse
And it's a long way to Broadway from a 42nd lay
Or is it really just a couple of blocks away

Me and my stupidity sittin' on a fence
And digging what I thought was New York City

"Hello Darkness my old friend..."

I used to work with a fella who, knowing how songs stuck in my head, would sing just the opening line from a song, thus implanting the tune in my head....FOR THE REST OF THE DAY!!!

The one above was a fave of his along with "They say that you're a runaround lover...", "What's new pussycat..", and many, many more....

The Greeks post above just reminded me of this S&G song that had me thinking.

He died last Saturday He turned on the gas, and he went to sleep. With the windows closed, so he'd Never wake up.

Wow!

Frank Turner's lyrics just resonate with me more than anyone elses, I remember when I got his album Love, Ire and Song that almost every song could have been about me, but this was particularly apt*:

Well I've had many different girls inside my bed

But only one or two inside my head

These days I cuddle up to my guitar instead

But oh, what I would give, not to stumble but to really fall in love

And I could substitute my singing for the sound of someone sleeping next to me

That really got me when I was single in my mid-twenties. Also, from a couple of albums later:

Well I've said "I love you" so many times that the words kinda died in my mouth

And I meant it each time with each beautiful woman, but somehow it never worked out

But you stood apart in my calloused heart and you taught me and here's what I learned

That love is about all the changes you make and not just three little words

*Apart from the "many different girls bit, that never applied to me 😂

This does it for me, Mr Neil Young:

"Rockin' In The Free World"

There's colors on the street
Red, white and blue
People shufflin' their feet
People sleepin' in their shoes
But there's a warnin' sign
on the road ahead
There's a lot of people sayin'
we'd be better off dead
Don't feel like Satan,
but I am to them
So I try to forget it,
any way I can.

Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world
Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world.

I see a woman in the night
With a baby in her hand
Under an old street light
Near a garbage can
Now she puts the kid away,
and she's gone to get a hit
She hates her life,
and what she's done to it
There's one more kid
that will never go to school
Never get to fall in love,
never get to be cool.

Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world
Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world.

We got a thousand points of light
For the homeless man
We got a kinder, gentler,
Machine gun hand
We got department stores
and toilet paper
Got styrofoam boxes
for the ozone layer
Got a man of the people,
says keep hope alive
Got fuel to burn,
got roads to drive.

Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world
Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world.

Obliterated by so many cover bands in so many pubs that just don’t get it 😩

A few years back in my late 30s I went through a marriage break up and escaped to the USA to get my head straight. Jesse Malin's lyric "meanwhile back across the pond, all my friend's are Dads and Moms" certainly struck a chord with me at the time.

Pretty much anything by Robert Hunter will alter your world if you're in the right frame of mind...

Well I ain't often right but I've never been wrong,
Seldom turns out the way it does in the song.
Once in a while you get shown the light
In the strangest of places if you look at it right.

'Cinematic' lyrics from "Take Me Away (Together As One)" on the fantastic Paul Stanley solo album (1978)

Yesterday is far away, so take me out to sea
Far away, I'll live what never will be
Check me, to lose or win, I'll live in memories
The trip begins, the dream I'm in.... sets me free
