solo4652 Posted November 21, 2017 Share Posted November 21, 2017 One of my basses has white binding on the fretboard edge and, in comparison to the unbound rosewood fret boards on my other two basses, the shiny ends of the frets can be difficult to see. The ususal black dot markers are fine, but quite often I can't tell where the frets actually are which can lead to problems if I switch between basses with different neck lengths, but the same scale length. So, I need to add some fret-end markers to the white binding. I'm thinking about using a permamnent marker pen, having carefully masked-off the target areas on the binding. BassBunny Posted November 21, 2017 Share Posted November 21, 2017 Steve, funnily enough I have the same problem with a Maple/Maple neck but i had Luminlay fred dots fitted. What I did do, however as a stop gap is get some black Fablon, (other makes are available i'm sure) , or some adhesive backed vinyl and used a hole punch to punch out perfectly round markers. Stick these over the originals and job done without any damage to the bass. They can be peeled off if you ever decide to move the bass on without having to try and remove permanent marker. Mark D Phillips Posted November 21, 2017 Share Posted November 21, 2017 At sixty one years I am becoming long sighted so the edge of the neck is just a blur, and I am too proud to play wearing my reading glasses... I make biggish paint blobs with car touch-up paint; just one on the fifth and seventh frets and two at the twelfth; so even if just a blur I can still stay in position. Who said everything gets better and better as you get older? Mark...................... ps. my paint blobs also work a bit like the blind reading braille.
