Site Bugs - List them here

BigRedX

Question

I can't see a thread for reporting general site bugs and other weirdness, so I thought it might be a good idea to list them all in one place. If one does already exist, please merge this thread with it.

1. New posts don't always bump a thread up to the top of the list in a forum. I've seen this happen twice this morning, where someone had replied to a thread, but it still is in the place in the thread list where it was before the new post was made. Is this just a side effect of Basschat currently being slow in general or something different?

2. Marking content as read. There is an inconsistency in how this works. If I click the "Mark forum as read" text at the top of a forum listing I get a warning dialog box pop up asking me if I am sure. However if I mark a forum as read by clicking the "Speech Bubble" icon next to it the the forums list then there is no warning. IMO either the warning should apply to both actions, or it should only apply to clicking the "Speech Bubble" icon as this is easier to do by mistake.

3. No full editor for those of us who like to be a bit more creative with our BB tags and layout.

4. PMs from the old site have not migrated over. I can't remember seeing anything specific in the site migration threads that said "all you old PMs will be lost when the new version of the site goes live"

I'm sure there will be more to come...

I have noticed that threads I've unfollowed are now reappearing in 'content I commented on' even though I unfollowed them in the 'old' basschat, and they're showing as not followed so I can't unfollow them again if that makes sense

'Following' is different to 'commented on' - they are now two separate things. Confused me too at first.

I tend to check my 'new posts that I've commented on' and only ask for alerts to things i've manually followed that I need to keep track of better.

@ped Has 'Make a Donation' been thrown out with the bath water? I looked in Shop -  Marketplace Subscriptions, where there appears to be a spare slot that could in my mind - be a very good place for 'Donations' I may not be not alone in not wanting to advertise anything in the marketplace at the moment, but would be up for a straightforward donation.

Cheerz, John

Just to let you all know, I have added Donations to the shop. Obviously I'm not expecting any, but I wanted to play with the software anyway.

So go and donate everyone!!

Also the same when I see that someone has quoted someone, all I see for both is the coding

Those are both from the old site and we haven't been able to 'fix' them up yet. Anything post the move is fine, and we'll eventually get round to fixing the old stuff, too - but for now you can hopefully grab the links and use those in the meantime.

I'm finding when someone posts a url link for examle to photobucket, all I see is the link itself and not the picture

Photobucket was free , but then out of the blue, they decided to cut everyones links, and made Bucket a pay site. Everyone's links become a URL

I use an image upload app on iPhone/iPad called Phupp, which is basically just a neat(ish) gui that uses Imageshack as a host. Been using it for about a year now with no issues. Imageshack seems to be the way forward!

It's a little annoying that when you reply to a thread, you're automatically following that thread, you have to opt out of it. I'd prefer it if you had to opt in instead.

If you go to your notification settings you can change that

I posted a while back in thread about inconsistencies in the way the "Mark forum as read" works, but having has some time the play about with this function I have found even more, as follows:

On Safari 11.0 (Mac OS 10.11.6) only clicking on the "Mark forum as read" link at the top of the list of topics within a forum will bring up the "Are You Sure?" dialogue box. Clicking the icon next to the forum heading will mark the forum as read without any warning.

However on the iPad (iOS 11.1) Safari, the behaviour is somewhat different as follows:

If I click the icon next to the forum heading will bring up the "Are You Sure?" dialogue box, but only if I do it from the Basschat "Home" page - the one that lists all of the individual forums. If I was to click the icon next to "Gear Porn" while in the "Gear" section rather than the "Home" page, I don't get a warning dialogue box and the page reloads taking me back to the top of the page. When I do get the warning dialogue the page doesn't reload and after clicking cancel or OK I remain at the same point on the page as I was before.

Hopefully this will help track down what is going wrong with this function.

Im sure this has been mentioned already but ive not had any email notifications since the new site went live. Could well be im doing something wrong but it seems strange. I get the little orange notification at the top of the page, but obviously i only see it when i come on here.
