you've not listened to any covers of Bob Dylan songs then, especially Hendrix's All Along the Watchtower

Absolute tosh. Next you'll be saying Adele's version of To Make You Feel My Love is better :o

The great thing about most Dylan covers is they are always very different from his versions , so you've got options

Have a listen to this guy,if you've not already heard of him.Him and his bassist do acoustic covers of nearly everything. He has one of the best voices I've heard in years. This is a great cover of Toto's 'Africa'

The Third Degree covering Duffy's Mercy. I love a bit of Northern Soul.

That's exactly what I was going to suggest. When I listen to it the song makes me feel like the Third Degree version must be an obscure original early 70s track which Duffy found in a second hand shop and covered!

P.S. the singer on this isn't the cool dude in the video but the beardie folkish, singer songwriter from Hampshire, Jon Allen.

This bloke... good singer!

Thin Lizzie covered 'Whiskey in the Jar' in the early 1970s and it has rarely been bettered.

I'd largely agree with that - although Metallica's cover of the same song is, for me, the go-to version

Other notable covers would be The Slits version of Heard it Through The Grapevine...

...and this surprisingly good version of an AC/DC classic.
