Orange Amp / Cab Decisions?

Recommended Posts

I have the chance to get an orange ad200 head from a really good friend of mine.

Question is, what would be a great cab to go with it?

I do like the the look & idea of a matching orange cab but I'm open to ideas.

Anyone got any advice?

Cheers

Anth

Ampeg, Orange would sound great.

Make sure whatever you get that you can defeat the tweeter on it as it can get a bit harsh and unpleasant especially when the amp starts to break up... I found sealed tweeterless cabs sounded better and more solid

It really depends on personal preference & what You like the sound of.
If you want to keep the orange colour, then Matamp make cabs in any colour you want.
If it was me, my prefernces would be to try Markbass, Barefaced, Bergantino, Vanderkley & EBS. Though I'd still be trying others out too.

The Orange OBC 4X10 is a phenomenal sounding cab and a perfect match but it's heavy, and awkward to carry due it's shape... Its closer to a cube than most other 410's. On the plus-side it's got terrific low end presence and mid-range punch though. The horn doesn't seem to do much to my ears mind you.

Orange parabolic 2x15 (two 15's mounted back to back firing up and down). Wonderful cab (though pretty damned rare).

& from what I've read on here, pretty pointless & would have been as well being a 1x15.

Have to differ. I played through one and it was brilliant.

Fair enough. Was it better than the Mesa?

Buy a cab you like the sound of and get it recovered to match your amp.

This man makes sense.
He often does, not always, but often.

I played through it before I had bought any Mesa gear (about 35 years ago but I remember vividly being hugely impressed).

I have to say that nothing I've ever played through has been better than any of the Mesa cabs (for my leaden style of playing anyway).
