In 2014 a television station ran archive footage of the horse resettling, my cousin happened to be watching and recognised the old boy from a family portrait. I was able to record the footage and grab a still. I thought he might like a run out 100 years on so he's been my avatar ever since.

That is a great story and has genuinely made me smile this morning. I never met my paternal grandfather, he was a member of his local pit rescue and died of silicosis when my Dad was young. He was part of a group spoken to by the great George Orwell as research for his book Road to Wigan Pier (of which I have a treasured 1st edition) but none of his notes survive for that book so we can't find out any more. Families are fascinating things.
