More basses for sale within a forum.

Then no. BC has been here over 10 years and established the largest and most diverse independent marketplace in the UK, if not Europe.

It just goes to show how different we all are. In my entire life, I've only ever put in ads for two items (a couple of PC sound cards I'd received in error, and a now redundant RC system, both on 'LeBonCoin', the equivalent of Gumtree...). If neither had been bought, I'd have been just as happy. I'd never even consider selling any of my gear; all was bought (mostly second-hand...) exactly because I wanted it, and still do..! It's true that I've bought a few items from ads in the BC Marketplace, but I certainly don't consider it to be, for me, a major feature; in fact, if I wasn't a Mod there, I'd probably never see any ads at all (and miss out on the few purchases I've made there..!)..! Just not the 'commercial' type, I suppose..!

Maybe it's different if you're mainly a buyer or a seller. I only ever sell stuff, I tend to buy brand new. Recently sold my Warwick Thumb on BC and had no problems at all... it went in a week at a price that (I hope) bother buyer and seller were happy with.
If I was looking for a second hand item I'd post a wanted ad and see what happened.
I only joined to sell my bass... but got a bit caught up in it since then and resisting the resulting GAS... so far.

I don't think there is a better one in Europe.

There is a forum in Germany https://www.bassic.de/ - the community is a lot smaller and people who advertise on Basschat - very often put their gear up on there too. You can find some really nice basses there, for a decent price.

Bigger maybe. Better? Not sure about that at all.

From my personal experience of selling on Basschat and on eBay, I'd much rather sell on eBay. The immeasurably bigger audience far outweighs any other problems I have encountered.

Basschat used to be a great place to buy or sell gear 8-10 years ago and I made a lot of bass playing buddies through sales but as it grew in popularity, so did the amount of time wasters and jokers who think helpful comments about the gear your selling flourished. I used to buy and sell a lot on here about 7 years ago but just got fed up with meaningless messages and comments that potentially scupper your sale with personal unhelpful opinions. But having said that it's still a great place for more realistic prices as opposed to eBay.

In the last 3 weeks I sold 2 basses and 1 amp on Gumtree. The only reason for selling on there was it was to local people who can come to my place and try the gear out, make sure they are happy with it and pay cash. Saves me any hassle with couriers and any associated problems.

Having said that, there is some "interesting" characters on Gumtree.

Over the last 15 or so years I have bought and sold somewhere in the region of £25k worth of items on eBay. I've had a couple of problems but nothing so bad that it would make me stop using the site for either buying or selling.

I do think it helps if your buying and selling interests fall outside of the mainstream. Certainly when you sell, the people interested in your items tend to be more serious if it's something a bit more unusual than a Fender-alike bass.

eBay
[/quote]I. Would have to agree with this I have been messed about on bc that much that I have given up selling basses and bigger items on the site it's not the sites fault but like every thing the site has grown and thus more idiots and lowballers on the site I'd rather pay the eBay fees and still get the same amount of money or more than I would on bc

I've just had a look and in the 15 years I have been on Ebay I have sold £38,520.42 worth of stuff. Mainly basses, amps & cabs. That's ridiculous and made worse by the fact that I've sold a lot of stuff on here as well. Probably another £5-10,000 worth. Not to mention Bumtree sales :o

I think they all have their uses for different purposes. I think here is the best for UK & European stuff, Ebay for worldwide and Gumtree for things that are too large to post.

eBay is best for picking stuff up on the cheap if you're prepared to wait, but it's also ok for me for selling stuff, just need to be very accurate about descriptions. I've found Facebook very good for selling pedals and also cheaper guitars.
Never had much luck selling on Gumtree, but have bought a few things. I've bought and sold gear and basses on here and never had any problems...and met some nice people along the way.

I will not be held responsible for your GAS when you see what's available here. I'm having GAS issues and I really don't need anything!
